Alfa V6 as the #1 best pre-90s 6 cylinder engine? Really? People must be hitting the crack pipe. I had one, all it has is sound. That's it. There are several 6 cylinder engines from that period that sound great but also have other traits like reliability, power, revs, etc. to go with it. It isn't even the best sounding on that list. M88, RB, Jaguar, Dino, etc. IMO give it a run for the money on sound. Who votes an engine based solely on sound only? Car hipsters? Of course pleb engines like the VG30, L24-28, AMC I6, Slant 6, Ford 300, etc didn't make it.

I never would of never considered people who like an engine hipster and pretentious until I read that list and the comments. Reminds me of wispy mustaches telling me how great their $400 "audiophile" headphones listening to bands "i never heard of before" on their ipod while taking the bus near Wicker Park.

Sorry but I read this and it made me butthurt. Alfa worship is getting over the top ridiculous and I know it's because of Top Gear. It's like Supras and DSMs after Fast and the Furious came out.

I think overall the list is pretty good but I would have to agree that it's a little odd the Alfa is number one. The problem with any list about anything is that it's highly subjective and just someone's opinion. The list is includes all sixes and not just V6s.

Just say no to online "Best Of..." lists. They only exist to drive Internet traffic to a website, no one is going to agree with all their choices.

Well they asked on Facebook what pre-90s 6 cylinders are best basically. The JZ are not on there because they are 90s, i don't think an 80s version existed.

I guess they are doing their job since I posted their link here asking WTF is wrong with them, lol

I think the list is pretty good. It is pretty fair and covers euro, american, and Asian products. Could it be better, sure...

But this is grm and someone will argue that the 2.8 chevy v6 was underappreciated and you could fix all its ills by ONLY changing the heads, block, cams, pistons, induction, and valve covers.

This guy.

If the engine in my triumph is too far gone the only motors I am considering to replace it are the BMW m20 and the 12V VR6. And yes those choices are solely based on exhaust note.
