I have seen a lot of E30 BMW sport seats on Craigslist or in the boneyards for dirt cheap lately, and that's because they all need to be recovered. I am in need of some new seats for my Trans Am sooner than later, and I noticed that BMW offered these in a maroon color that's pretty close to my interior. There's even a set of them on CL right now local to me for $100. Does anyone make upholstery kits for these that don't break the bank?

Timely question, I'd like to know, too.
I got a set of covers from a guy on eBay for my "comfort" seats in the e30. He makes recover kits for sport seats too and last time he even had some seats that had been recovered already. Kit was about $500. It was a PITA to do the recover and it smelled like a** with all the stuff coming out, but the material was nice and I thought the stitching was really good for vinyl covers. He also made a set of covers for my back seats with the same material which was nice.
Some of those BMW sport seats are very similar to 80s Mustang seats. Mustang covers are available, nice, and fairly cheap. BMW covers are hard to find, expensive and not all that nice. A little nip, tuck, and sew and the Mustang covers work. Seen several recovered that way and they look amazing. The Mustang foams are a close match and cheap as well. Foam is easy to trim. Google up Mustang/BMW Recaro seats. You will find threads with pictures on a bunch of different forums.
I looked into this when I had Ugly. I had 4 total sport seats, of which one was in decent shape and the others were in various states of trashed. I came to the conclusion that it was easier to just wait and find a good set of seats for sale than to try and re-cover the ones I had.
Here's a discussion thread from the my28.com board about upholstery shops: http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=138715&p=1374409 The sport seats in e28 5 series cars are not identical but are very similar to e30 sport seats. One of the places listed may be able to help you out.
