Im about to order new CAB's, Subframe Bushing, and Diff Mount for my E30. Im leaning towards ordering Powerflex stuff, but am wondering whether stock bushings are the way to go.
Can anyone comment? Has anyone put Powerflex Bushings on an E30 and regretted it?
The car is a daily driver and autocross/HPDE car.
I ran M3 solid offest CAB's, and filled the diff mount with windshield uerathane. Never had the pleasure of changing rear subframe bushings, knock on wood. I had one diff that came with a solid rubber bushing once, not sure where it came from.
Urethane is the way to go for subs... they install easier, control the car better and properly greased won't make any noise. I didn't notice any additional harshness from them either.
The diff mount is a little different... it will transmit noise and vibration better just as it does with load so if you don't want to hear diff whine or clunking use rubber.
I run '95 M3 CABs on everything E36 and E30 except the race car. Not only is the geometry a little more sporting - it has less flex by virtue of being solid (the others have holes to make them soft) so you get sharper steering feel but you also get more road transmitted to your hands - IMO a good thing but YMMV.
I have had both Powerflex and the green IE/Carr subframe bushings. Both seemed to perform well, with no extra noise created. I used Mobil1 synthetic grease during assembly (the red stuff). Overall, I'm equally happy. The Powerflex bushings are two piece - one main bushing and a top hat that goes on the top. The Carr/IE bushings are two equal sized pieces, which requires a bit more attention during assembly to make sure that they seat to each other.
For the TA bushings, I have PowerFlex and have been happy. I haven't tried any of the adjustable bushings, as I got the weld-on camber/toe kit. I've heard the adjustable ones slip over time.
For the CABs, M3 offsets have worked just fine. More caster and no extra noise that I can tell.
