One of my friends of selling his estoril 1999 E36 M3 5-speed coupe. I'm trying to gauge what a reasonable price would be.
It's not in great shape, but also not in terrible shape. Reliable enough to daily but needs some cosmetic work.
Good: ~140k miles
Cooling system/bushings done ~14 years/40k miles ago
Drives well
No known rust
Depends on taste: UUC exhaust and Bilstein coilovers
Bad: Needs front nose trim, hood needs a repaint, clearcoat failure on spoiler, non-oem rear lights, saggy headliner, history of accident and repair
What do you guys think would be a good private party price and then what would be a good friend price?
Teens.
Do you have any pics?
Dove interior? If so, whats the condition. Other colors fare much better.
14K. Color (both interior and exterior) are critical price points on these. Estoril: pretty good. Dove: not good. Lux package: not good. I don't like cars with the spoiler. Accidents aren't good obviously, but critical on price- the difference between a collector (and collector value) and a kid with a mid-teens budget wanting a cool, classic, fast(ish) car.
I was really REALLY hoping someone said "$2500-3000 tops"
Oh well

That's either a typo or something for the "bad" section.

Interior is black seats are average-good conditions, no rips or big wear spots that you'd have to be mindful of. Not a luxury package car.
Shortly after this picture was taken the nose piece was smushed by someone during street parking. Spoiler needs re painting, and the hood has stress cracks/fissures and rust spots (probably from previous accident repair) and will need to be replaced.
Owner really want to say the car looks a lot better in the picture than in real life.
The front bumper is from a sport model. But the side skirt looks to be from a luxury model. Confusing as there was no luxury model offered in '99.
Is there wood trim inside and what do the seats look like?
Missing the lip spoiler. Headlights, turn signals and side markers are not original. Kidneys are either painted or not original as well. Given the pic, and the color combination I still say that's a low to mid teens car.
Get us more pics of the outside and interior if you want to bring the price down, but it will be difficult. So far I only see easily corrected cosmetic issues.
I'm going to say that it's a $11k car given the existing accident damage, previous accident damage, and paint work required. These cars gain value through thorough documentation of consistent care and it sounds like this one is a bit on the "diamond in the rough" side of the value equation. 3 years ago I would have said 6500-7500.

Actually the opposite. I'm in agreement it's a teens car. I'm not the buyer but I think he's getting beat up on the price.
No wood trim inside, black seats in good condition no rips or tears.

If I remember your car correctly there were some mods to the outside. I cant exactly remember what.
I'd say, given the color your car is solid high teens if visually stock in the outside (factory square wheels are a plus). The dove could be a negative if its worn, but yours is redone ... I remember there were some issues, maybe the leather was somewhat loose or something.
EDIT: just saw pics of your car.
- remove the rear diffuser
- give a good detail
- swap the shifter and e-brake boot for stock leather
- fix the glovebox
- fix the sunroof headliner
Get $20k on BAT.
Two years ago that would have been half

Thanks dude.
Front end is back to factory.
Rear diffuser is gone.
Headliner is brand new as are the front seats. Door cards have seen better days but I couldn't get the upholstery shop to touch them.
Any leads on where to find factory style leather boots and armrest? When I last looked I couldn't find anything.
berkeley that glovebox LOL
