On 91oct with a cat back and the OFT stage 1 tune, I averaged 27-28mpg in mixed use.

On the OFT E85 tune, I'm averaging about 21mpg.

Just in case anyone was curious. :)

Interesting but not unexpected

That's not bad. How does that correlate with the price difference between the two?

I posted this since someone else the other day was claiming an 80% reduction in mileage.

Right now where I'm at 91 is $2.50, E85 is $1.74.

In reply to z31maniac: Sounds like the other poster doesn't remember how to read a calculator. As in 75%-80% of the stock mpg. Not a 80% reduction in mileage.

No his post was very clear since he laid out numbers, claiming he went from 16 to 3

What are the implications of running e85 in terms of corrosion and such? What supporting mods need to be made?

I bet it eats up seals.

Well, if it's a car that can run E85 (flex fuel) it should already have everything necessary to run it without corrosion or seal issues.

hi, 1973 called, it would like it's lack of education back.

you guys really need to get off it, my lawnmower has been sitting for over a year with normal e10 gas, started on the 2nd pull and ran fine.

The only widespread problem I've seen is with boats with fiberglass fuel tanks. The ethanol disolves the resin which gums uo the injectors/bowls

Right, any problems with the fuel system is automatically blamed on ethanol.

Heck, we have been putting alcohol in our gas for years.

It's called gas line anti freeze.

Bet it doesn't since that doesn't actually happen in any car made in the last 2 decades.

Mostly because ethanol has been in your gas for decades.

His post was very clear? What post are you talking about? I'm talking about this post, which I just quoted, where the poster's mileage went from 27-28 to 21 with E85! Which is pretty much exactly my experience as well.

So now when I want to run 15# of supercharger pressure, I change the pulleys and run E-85. And no, I haven't done a pull with that combination to check the HP but it seems adequate for a less than 2,500 lb. ride. When I'm happy with only 12# of boost for DDing or trips, I run on premium pump gas instead.

Better than I'd expect, I saw right at 30% reduction in fuel economy using E85 in my truck, not enough to make up for the 20% price difference.

I was basing my question on the fact that when running methanol in my midgets, sprint cars and ISMA supermodifieds we had to be very careful about not leaving it to sit in the system or it would cause tremendous damage. I was asking if e85 had similar issues because I'm in the very early stages of exploring the possibility of running it in SWMBO's dd car. For all I know the two fuels are completely different, that's why I asked the question.

My 951 ran like crap and took forever to start after sitting for months with E10.

This was even after installing fresh plugs, cap and rotor.

Struggled through the tail end of the tank, filled it with fresh 92 E10 and it's been much better behaved in starting when dead cold.

I've had other people have similar problems with old E10 fuel in their cars

So yeah E10 is irritating in how it "works" if left to sit for long, without any extra additives.

Just my own rather limited observations.
