I have not done it, but wasn't there a time when they all had the same wiring harnesses so putting a VR6 in a base model Golf was plug and play?
My '89 GL had a GTI 8v suspension. Brakes were literally replacing the solid disks and thick pads for vented disks and thin pads. Etc.
It's kind of getting hard to do any of this now, if only because some of the donors are getting too rusty to make it worthwhile. Morphing bottom-tier Subaru legacies and Imprezas into WRX clones is getting harder just cause so many get rusty. Same for classic A and B body GMs.
Turning a base Gen III or IV viper in to a ACR is a wing, splitter and suspension away. Cheap all things considered.

The stuff all fits in a Mini Cooper for a stylish way to reshell a rusted out WRX.

Yea 89-99 was all the same fuseblock. Any engine harness plugged right in.
