Current "exhaust"

I bought a random 2.5" exhaust kit for a dodge dart from jegs, it was cheap and had free shipping.

Anywho, it more or less fits (and I have a ton of extra 2.5" exhaust now...), but now I need to make it a bit less .... loud (as much as I like the looks and sound now). I've never really built an exhaust from scratch. I need to be able to run it at Laguna Seca (92dB), what will make it shut up enough to pass that without chocking the engine?

A lot of exocets run something similar to this:

Exomotive's Exhaust

But I would love to keep the straight pipe off the rear. It makes look like a beetle or something.

three 90's and this muffler and you're good to go:

I doubt that a muffler short enough to fit in that location and keep the pipe straight out the back will get you enough drop in decibels.

If I could do it with something inline under the car that would work too, but I suppose nothing will fit easily under there and sufficiently quiet the thing down.

Thanks for the link. Seems like what I'll have to go with.

Run the biggest, quietest muffler(s) that fit. If that's still not quiet enough, start replacing straight sections of pipe with resonators. That won't make a huge difference, but it'll cut down the noise a bit more and sometimes can be just enough to get it from "too loud" to "not bad".

What about something like this with a couple 90 degree bends?

Maybe get fancy and do something like one half of this, but put a cut out in the pipe between the Inlet and outlet:

If you don't already have one, a cat would also help with noise control...So would a turbo.

First road legal and running well. Then turbo. :D

This, big transverse mounted unit is going to be the way to go. Could probably get away with the cheaper "Hush Thrush" or even a plain Thrush Turbo.

Also a turn down at the end of the exhaust.

This will help a lot. Did it on a straight pipe single open exhaust on a 240z and it reduced exhaust note according to track by 6 or 8 db's. If you know which side of track monitoring device is point it downward but slightly away from that side of track

Woah, thanks for all the help guys!

That looks to be the easiest button there is!

I think between the supertrapp and a highflow cat I can get this thing quiet (and smelling nicer) without too much pain.
