Do my research for me, GRM :)
I found a lead on a cheap Focus shell. I like the Focus, I used to own one, but I don't remember much about making them fast. SVT swap, 2.3L Duratec, 2.5L (4 banger or 6-cyl)... what's the best dollar/hp ratio for a truly bolt-in solution? (No thanks on the RWD V8 conversion).
2.3L duratec. Off the top of my head, it gives up 10hp to the SVT mill, but makes more torque, takes regular gas, and is likely much cheaper to source.

Well the earliest ones either came with the 2.0 SPI, 2.0 Zetec SVT or normal 2.0 Zetec . They have the same bellhousing pattern, which is the classic Ford 4 cylinder but with the starter moved up in place of one of the bolts so that the starter doesn't occupy the same location as the axle shaft.
The Duratec has a different pattern but I believe all of the ford 4 cylinders use this bolt pattern since. This includes the MZR from Mazdas and the RWD Duratec from the Ranger. Again, I believe the 4 banger Ecoboost share this pattern too.

If you wanted to be truly different, you could cut the one bellhousing bolt 'ear' off of the block of a 2.3 Turbo Lima (to make room for the starter) and have the only fwd, transverse, turbo, 2.3 Lima in existence. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
I'm sure there is a bit more to it... ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
3.0L duratec bottom end under csvt top end parts, coupled to the csvt's mtx-75. Wiring would suck, but it's been done before.

In reply to WOW Really Paul?:
Why stop there? Use the 3.4 SHO V8 instead!
I have a friend putting a Focus engine in a mustang ministock. He said it aligns perfectly with a T5 bellhousing although only two bolt holes lined up. So I guess I am saying transverse V8!

So what you're saying is, 2013 Escape engine + MTX-75 (duratec bellhousing) = possible bolt-in 243hp focus? I mean, aside from all the hard stuff.

If you're referring to a 2.0 Ecoboost, yes that's my understanding. Don't spend money and find out different and yell at me though, do more research. I haven't played with the Duratec or Ecoboost engines. I've had my hands on a Lima and still have a Zetec, however.

Did some more digging, and it appears that the 1.0 Ecoboost is a newer design. I'm not sure if that bellhousing matches anything else. The 1.6 Ecoboost is based on the Sigma family of engines and have their own bellhousing pattern. The 2.0 and 2.3 Ecoboost seems to match the Duratec/MZR 4 cylinders bellhousing.
