I am about to start stripping and paint parts of my Spitfire. I was hoping some one had a suggestion for a decent rattle can primer and chassis paint. It isn't going to be a show car so it doesn't have to be super pretty but good enough.

I used POR-15 chassis black (brush on) with self-etching spray primer on the GT6, and it's held up well so far.

I used rustoleum heavy rust primer and satin black on the tr4 frame. Wire brushed the hell out of the frame and brushed it on. It flows well and doesn't leave brush marks. Fairly tough, easy touch ups. Did the spray version where I made ugly brackets for TR6 a-arm mounts.

What about a spray body primer?

I've used Eastwood's Chassis Black and Rust Encapsulator in rattle cans and been happy with the results. I like Rustoleum's Hammerite in spray cans too.

This is my next step after finishing fitting the body shell and panels. I was considering sending the frame off for blasting to avoid wire brushing the whole thing. Then brush on Eastwood's chassis paint. For my other TR6, I used self-etching epoxy primer and Emron top-coat. It's held up really well, but I'm trying to avoid exposure to such risky materials now.

Oldtin, if you need any TR6 suspension bits, let me know. I've got way more TR6 suspension stuff than I need.

If you are doing a whole frame then you might be surprised at how affordable powder coating is, especially as it includes sandblasting. Lots of smaller pieces adds up, though.
