Paid Article Presented by eBay Motors

Love it or hate it, there’s no arguing that eBay Motors usually has more cool cars for sale than every other site on the internet. Heck, just their collector car category currently has more than 13,000 vehicles listed–and that’s just a small fraction of the broader automotive category.

There is a catch, though. eBay …

Two questions: does the app let you separate out dealer ads? And can you search the dollar amounts without getting the idiots that list their Camaro for $10?

I never used to be believe in ebay motors, as I always had most success on Craigslist

however I sold 3 cars last 18 months

mazda5

tacoma 4 door

2005 lexus ls430

and all transaction I got what I wanted, went smooth, and out of state buyers gobbled them up for more than I would get locally

I am a believer .

I bought my current car from eBay Motors after months of scouring the other outlets.  Got frustrated while browsing at work, popped up eBay Motors just out of curiosity, and there it was.

Called the seller on Friday made him a Buy It Now cash offer that included guaranteed trailer pick up before 10am on Saturday, deal done.

Now I'm going to go to the attic dig out all of those iPods that I can apparently discard on eBay.  laugh

Facebook Marketplace (I don't FB) and Bring a Trailer have destroyed the market at both ends of the spectrum of cars I'm interested in.  Hopefully eBay Motors provides a nice middle ground between the cheapest and costliest places to buy cars.

Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been, ever, for any reason

Yes, you can filter for each of those things.

I should sell the E30 on eBay.

Might actually see a profit if I sold it that way instead of local.

You’ll find no other products to distract you from that sweet project car that you could totally keep at your friend’s house for a few months until you figure out how to sell the idea to the rest of the family.

Downloaded the app, it only lets you go to a minimum of $10,000. That makes it harder to find challenge priced cars.... not sure if this was one of those promotional type posts from the staff. If it is, please let the person at eBay you're talking to know about this.

_, I'll pass that along. Pretty cool that the GRM Forum is serving as eBay Motors' focus group here.

In reply to Tom Suddard :

My experience with E. Bay is less than Sterling.
I listed and sold my Black Jack special and in the sprited bidding It reached nearly what I felt it's current market value was.
A day later the bidder admitted he couldn't pay for it and I was forced to re-list it. Now bidders assumed the worst and the few bidders best bid was much less than 1/2 its previous high.

Twice I've been the high bidder only to have the car/ item withdrawn.  Once at the buy-it-Now price.

This is the response from eBay Motors' head of product to the pricing question:

We intentionally set the price to be <$10000 and not lower for a few reasons:
  1. eBay is auction based so prices are always changing as the bidding occurs. A $50,000 car easily could be $2,000 at any time as the auction is in process.
  2. We don’t want to limit the price too low so we don’t get just cars whose price isn’t representative of their final value or no results returned.

You can order by price from low to high and use the extensive filters to help with finding deals and then go through the pages to discover your perfect project.

  • AI-Powered Image Sorting: When listing or viewing a vehicle on the new eBay Motors app, images of the vehicle will be automatically organized by AI to provide a listing which looks like it was created by a mechanic.

What does this mean above?

I realize that AI is artificial intengence.  What I am questioning is, "...provide a listing which looks like it was created by a mechanic"

What should a mechanic created listing look like?  Will the AI be inserting a phoney background of a auto repair shop to the photos?  Will the listing look like it was done by someone who's main proffession is not slick marketing materials but rather tires, oil, tools and moving parts?

Is this just a phone app, or will something similar be available for PC use?  Also, the article did not address my two major concerns about purchasing through eBay Motors.

If I'm serious about a car, will eBay provide a qualified mechanic to do a thorough inspection (even if it costs me $100)?  I'm not talking about someone who just does a cosmetic walk-around.  And eBay guarantees the quality of the inspection?  Maybe an eBay version of a CPO where its mechanic's report is available to all buyers and its accuracy is guaranteed by eBay?

Does eBay contract with shippers so I wouldn't have to deal with figuring out that angle (including worries about costs, timing, reliability, and preventing damage to my purchase)?

If eBay provides this, it really would be easy car buying.  Otherwise, it still seems like a crapshoot.

In reply to Freeland Shopper :

Looks like ebay Motors format is implemented on PC.  They are adding dedicated device apps.  I don't use device apps typically since they are harder to maneuver and hard to see detail.

List With Just Your License Plate: When selling a vehicle, the user will be prompted by the app to take a photo of the license plate, which the app will use to automatically populate key details such as make and model, year and VIN. In just a few steps, and in less than 5 minutes, a seller can create and populate a listing, including uploading images and a video of the vehicle to entice the right buyer...

Um, not only NO, but H, E, Double Toothpicks NOOOOO.

Remember, just 'cause I'm paranoid, don't mean NOBODY'S after me!!!!

I have bought a car from e-bay that went well, 'cause I drove 4 hrs to inspect it, and put the winning bid in in the mans driveway on my laptop!

I have and will buy and sell parts, but I am EXTREAMLY carful.

Read up on some people that have had problems with e-bay and Paypal, even before they became one company... Stuff like that is actually illegal and immoral, but just try and win against ah HUGE illegal and immoral company that makes a lot of peoples lives easier.
