I assume Zetec went bye bye with all the Zx series. Really, if be interested in Ecoboost because of power + fuel mileage = fun. Doesn't really take rocket science...

Sure, I was just commenting on AlfaDriver's saying the Zetec was replaced 7 or 8 years ago then telling N Sperlo he should replace his Zetec with ... a Zetec.

at least it had a few extra ponies under the seats...
Not the fuel mileage. Probably interference as well, and that make my butt pucker.

So are we back to mechanical fuel injection?

no

Only if adding water injection means a gas engine is suddenly a steam engine.
Another Zombie thread, but I just got this off the UK Locost forum. They has them, you know.
Ecoboost 2.0l is effectively a Turbo GDI duratec with duratec bellhousing pattern
Ecoboost 1.6L is a Turbo GDI version of the Sigma, with Sigma bellhousing pattern
Ecoboost 1.0L is a totally new architecture, Turbo GDI 3 cylinder but it has the same bellhousing pattern as fords of old
So the 1.0 Ecoboost will fit where a Pre-Xflow, x-Flow, Pinto, RWD CVH, Zetec currently resides ;o)
And yes a 1.0L ecoboost with a 1.6l ecoboost turbo is a very potent package Likewise a 1.6L Ecoboost with the turbo from the 2.0L and an intake manifold with conventional injectors fitted is even better (You need PFI on this as the GDI injectors are at their limit around 210hp) but adding a conventional fuel rail and injectors alows you to fuel effectively above the limit of the std GDI injectors
FYI- To the best of my knowledge Ford USA still does not have "plug and play" kits for the 1.6 or 1.0 EcoBoost engines.
Various Ford sources have announced they would be available "shortly" for the past two years.
The 2.0 EcoBoost crate engine is now available without the needed wiring harness and ECU. The price however is about the same as a new GM LS engine.
The 1.0 EcoBoost sounds like an ideal engine until you realize that they are relatively heavy ( cast iron ) and are designed for emissions and mileage rather than performance. The UK owners say the engine does not have the proper character for a sports car.
There have also been numerous different factory recalls due to engine fires.
I'm now looking at other solutions till Ford gets their act together.
Chet
I think the 1.0l block is only 15-20 lbs heavier than the aluminum variant that Ford considered. The iron was chosen because of the improved thermal characteristics it provides. The 1.0l is also putting out over 200 in a formula Ford that was displayed a few months back. Stout little motor from the sounds of it.
The 1.0 turbo is going in to the Fiesta right?
That might have just been added to the list of cars I'd really like to own someday.
In reply to e_pie:
Yep, it has been soft launched but it isn't on their website yet. I would give it a couple months before pricing is given as they just did pricing on the Fiesta ST.

Wonder if they'll hit the under $20k price point.
