If you haven't already heard: New standalone class proposal for modified electric cars and/or regular cars with eletric drivetrain swaps. Could be interesting...except for people like me who can hardly wire up a gauge or fog light without shorting something out, lol....
https://www.sccarallycross.com/forum/rallycross/rules/2023-electric-and-hybrid-ruleset
https://www.motorsport.com/world-rx/news/world-rallycross-2020-fully-electric-1002791/
and this just came out that the world rally championship appears to be moving to all electric in 2020.
I don't really understand the why... Hybrids and EVs are already legal in Stock and Prepared since forever, and have been legal in Mod since a rule amendment allowed them there.
I cringe at the e-mail I will get when the rule proposals get sent out for discussion. I'm picturing some guy sticking some motors on the axles with a bank of batteries and a throttle pedal connected to a house-light rheostat, with Scotch-Lok connections everywhere. (The reason I petitioned for zero mods to EV system allowable in any class)

Internal combustion engines are dangerous to modify too, not to mention suspension or brake modifications.
I can see not wanting to throw safety to the wind, but why not let people who want to modify modify?

Btw, everyone:
I have a big electric motor and ac controller ready to go. Need battery and car. Would love to do a first gen mr2, because I think they generally rock at rallyx and are rwd.
Who's with me?

Letting people who want to modify modify is all well and good, but internal combustion engines are a lot more failsafe than a few hundred volts DC. The worst thing that happens is they go bang and stop moving. Electrical fires are self-sustaining in ways that are not suitable for untrained workers holding a tiny handheld fire extinguisher.
We're also talking about the same motorsport where the common outsider vision is "get whatever piece of E36 M3 you can find and beat on it until it stops moving". I'd rather people with that attitude go do demolition derby or drifting or some other lowlife form of vehicular entertainment, but here we are.

Boy, I sure am glad you're not talking about the beretta team

I have to admit that I thought about it. The cost of entry is just too high.
In reply to Robbie :
I'm thinking about the same for a future "engine" swap- actually been doing a little research on the side on my own time. Are you familiar with Speed Academy's electric Lotus Evora?
I wonder if people will run a battery with enough charge for a single run or a battery pack that is good for the whole day.
Would these for electric cars into electric only classes or does it create two options where you run a modified car with a stock electric drivetrain in modified or a modified car with a modified electric drivetrain in 'modified electric rear'?
