It so happens that I have to be in the Orlando area for work in January just before the Martin Luther King day weekend.
Of course I could just fly down there and back home, but that's so ... normal. And unless we get the snow storm of the century, three days should be enough to drive back home.
I need another project like I need a hole in my head, but if any GRMers in the area happen to have something interesting for sale (think Miata, Honda Civic/CRX, AE86, OG SAAB 900 or something along those lines[1]), I'd be happy to be enabled . I don't have the time or nerve to deal with the general public, though.
Note that I'm not looking for project vehicle, more something in the "nice running and driving" category - I'd prefer to drive back home, not wrench my way back home.
[1] I *might* be willing to stretch to an earlier decent Cayman as long as all the gears are present and working.
I could be persuaded to sell my 2002 MR2 project for what I've got into it. It's got a rebuilt title, but it's from what seems to be rather minor accident a few years ago when the car was at its lowest value. Frame rails are all strait. All panels but the rear bumper cover have the original Toyota VIN stickers. It's lived It's whole life in central Florida so absolutely no rust.
The good
- Approx 125,000 miles
- Just did Koni yellows, new strut tops, new front control arms, new sway bar links F/R
- New brakes with rotors and Porterfiled R4S pads, SS braided lines
- New Dunlop Direzza ZIII tires 195/205 on stock 15s
- New Toyota headlight assemblies
- New Toyota taillight lenses
- All new exterior light bulbs (got the car with mismatched stuff)
- New Toyota coolant expansion tank
- New seat upholstery (car was originally leather failing when I got the car earlier this year)
- A/C works
- No leaks soft top
- Timing chain tensioner proactively replaced w/ Toyota part
- Removed the horrible fake carbon fiber dash kit thr dealers installed on so many of these when new. Dash plastics still nice.
The bad
- About 60 percent original paint that's a bit faded. (Yellow) Hood has some chips. Still very presentable.
- Parking brake not functioning. I have new cables from Toyota but was waiting to drop the fuel tank when I got a harddog roll bar
- Engine has a small oil leak
- Torn CV boot on P/S axle inboard
- Cracked windshield on D/S from rock on I-4
- PO had an aftermarket clutch installed and it's too heavy for my taste, planned to replace w/ oem Toyota
I've got right around $9000 in it. PM if you have any interest. Honestly haven't had the car that long and I really like it. I've had 3 NB Miatas in the past but I just don't fit in them. I fit fine in the MR2. The only reason I'd be interested in moving it along is to fund an Exocet.

You could have just come out and said you didn't want any of mine. I have thick skin.
If you see anything in/around Gainesville, I'd be happy to check it out for you.

That would've felt oddly specific, though, wouldn't it?

I'll noodle a bit on it - it's a bit less practical than what I'm hoping for, and I'd have to find out how much effort if any it would be to transfer the rebuilt title.
In reply to dyintorace :
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
OK cool. I wasn't even really thinking of selling it until I read your post. I'm in Winter Park so worst case drop by and we can B.S.
Storage space is definitely limited on the MR2 spyder. I've had 2 CRX's and they are infinitely more practical.
In reply to mblommel :
After some more noodling, I appreciate the offer but I'll have to pass. I do need something a little more practical given that I already have an Elise that's almost as practical as the MR2.
Oh you have an Elise already? Then you don't need its cheaper half cousin. I had a 2005 Elise for a while, fantastic car.
Hope you're able to find something good. Prices on used cars seemed to have come a bit closer to pre-pandemic normalcy in central Florida.
In reply to mblommel :
I do, oddly enough an 05. It's going to be a little bit of a project as it seems to be exhibiting a lot of the typical Elise problems. Plus of course it's not the best vehicle for trying to travel to a track further away if you want to carry some tools and an extra set of wheels.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
Definitely true. A Scion FR-S might fit the bill for what you're looking for (if you can find a clean one). I had a 2013 for a while. It was a great car.
In reply to mblommel :
Heh. I had one of those a couple of years ago.
First time on the track, it added some non-standard vents to the block.
After replacing the engine, it behaved for a while and then at the second HPDE event I attended in it, one of the front calipers seized up. Caliper was less than a couple of years old at that point.
I did like the way it drove, a lot, but I don't think I need to relive that experience .
Quick bump for the post-turkey crowd .
I'm not really interested in trying to find something off CL or similar, hence my comment about wanting to buy from a GRMer. My general plan would be to check the car out, purchase it, register it before I fly down for the work event and drive it home. That requires a bit more trust than I would extend to the usual CL seller.
Pimpm3 is in Florida and always has a bunch of cool crap. Where's he at?! Haha

This forum definitely needs a way to tag people .
Although in other developments, a friend of mine just offered me a Cayman S that's already had some street/track mods done for a rather tempting price. Of course that car is out West...
Decisions, decisions...
Final bump - anybody got an interesting car for sale around central Florida that they wouldn't mind storing until mid-January?
In reply to BoxheadTim :
I sent a text to pimpm3 for you.
In reply to Stampie :
Thank you. This forum enables, but we knew that already.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
He told me that he didn't have anything right now. Sorry.
In reply to Stampie :
No worries, appreciate you pinging him.
I pinged ThunderCougarFalconGoat about his NB Miata...
