Sooo, I have a 24 hour race at VIR coming up. I am not sure the pads I normally run on my 2nd gen rx7 are up to the task.
I run stock brakes with Hawk Black front pads and HP+ rear pads (to help avoid rear locking). I run good fluid (super blue / castrol/ etc...), and stainless lines.
I MAY be able to get away with a full 24 hour race on these. However, I am not confident.
What say you? Which brand / pads are the best stopping / longest lasting?

I have used Performance Friction 97s with excellent results. Regardless of what you pick though - have spares.
We ran Porterfield R4E (NOT R4S!!!! S's will NOT last!) on our LeMons Civic with excellent results. They need to warm up a bit but once at temperature they bit well, had a great pedal feel and best of all lasted. I'm talking 32 hours (two races) of lasted. Definitely duct some air to them and get rid of the dust shields.
I am a big proponent of Raybestos ST43. They'll custom make them to suit your car if they don't have them on hand, and they aren't crazy expensive like the boutique brand of racing pads like Ferrodo. Expect to pay $250 per end of the car. They'll last you though!
I know plenty of people who run Carbotech's.

We are very happy with the carbotechs we run on 2 of our lemons cars, the Wagovan and the Boat. We can usually get 3 races out of them, and never had any pad related fade, even when one arrive and drive thought left foot braking was a good idea (I was behind him in another car and he was dragging the brakes a lot!). What I do is call Carbotech, ask for Mike Jr, tell him the application and sort of racing, and go with his recommendation. It has worked well so far.
On my LeMons 280zx, we run R4E's in the front and R4 in the rear. We have 3 races on the fronts and there's still meat left (although NHMS isn't super hard on brakes) and the rears were cooked after 2 races (stickier than the front and responded too well to heat mid brake zone).
Another vote for the Porterfield R4 E or Raybestos.
I'm surprised you can even use HP+ on that car at VIR...

HP+ on the rear ... depends on the car (VIR is relatively easy on brakes ... at least compared to CMP where most of my track time is)
a light weight FWD like a CRX or a Civic ..... the rear really doesn't do all that much ... I run OEM type rear pads (STS/CSP/TTE CRX) that last better than a yr (avg 6 - 8 track weekends and 20 - 25 a-x per yr)
Call it email Carbotech. They're really helpful.
