The Elio thread made me realize that a lot of people do not realize how many companies there are selling engines that are available to purchase for your package. Now almost all of these are advertised for off-highway use as they are sold for "industrial" application but most have highway roots or versions.
Feel free to add ones I have missed.
Piaggio
Rotax
GM
Ford
Suzuki...You gotta love global sites.

Somebody already put one of those in a stick-shifted, carbon-fiber-bodied Pro Touring '70 Charger. It's bananas.

That's the first step. Next we need to form a company composed (comprised?) of GRMers to build and sell ultra efficient vehicles to prove that it can be done. :)

Engine, less ECU, turbos and wiring harness, $68000.

Yeah, it's a little pricey. But from what their marine info pages say, you can make 1350 out of those 1650 hp on pump gas, so that's a pretty damn impressive package! And being marine derived, it should be insanely durable in a car, considering it was designed around running at 75% or more throttle for hours on end.

That's not bad. Consider one of the 900" nitrous pro mod mills... They are $100k and basically last about two to three races before they need a refresh....
They were originally offshore powerboat motors. Nothing accossiated with them will ever be cheap.
