I need a new engine for my 2005 Crown Vic. When you see the e-bay add, you'll see why I'm not rebuilding the original lump.

That said, does this add look right? It does to me. Low miles. Low price. Local pick up only is a problem, but I can drive the 4Runner to Carleton, MI and back for less than $130.00.

What say GRM?

4.6 Crown Vic engine

The only thing I would be concerned about is from reading the add, there is nothing anywhere that says it runs, they could sell one that all the internals were completely ruined and nothing in that add would be untrue. If you could talk to someone who would say the car ran when they got it, and if the warranty on the engine says you can return it if it doesn't run, then yes I would think it sounds ok. It does seem really cheap for an engine, just a bare longblock is more than that at a self service yard in my area, and a complete one is over $600.

car got hit hard- engine is probably fine... trans might be toast from the driveshaft getting pushed into it, but that force shouldn't have made it to the engine, and you're not looking for a trans, anyways... looks like they left the engine hooked up enough for you to maybe see it run before they pull it...

get a phone number and give them a call..

Do you need a 6 bolt crank or the 8 bolt?

Be sure it is the correct one.

Its going into a 2005 Crown Vic. Is there any way of knowing just from that? Would the VIN help? If its a 6 and I have the 8, is it just a flexplate change?

Is there any reason to not go with a 5.4 or something, considering you are swapping the motor anyway?

The fact that the car in 1200 miles away form me, the engine needs to go in as quickly as possible when I get out there.

These are the bolts that hold the flexplate to the crank, no way to swap them, I think the VIN should tell you

Add says 88k on a 2004 Vic. Any difference would be pre-'03 motors. The rest are all the same. Motor itself will not be DBW, so you have to swap all that stuff.

Has anyone ever looked at the variances of the 4.6? Ho-Lee-Crap! Forged or non-forged? 6 or 8 bolt? Dowel or jackshaft on the mains? Romeo, Windsor or Teksid? I thought MoPar was odd for the massive changes in the LA an B/RB engines.

No wonder Ls motors get swaped.

Damn. Just talked to the yard. Motor is junk. They DO have a running 04 with 95,000 for $500. Hmmm

Don't forget NPI, PI, or even F4AE heads...

Yeah, if the picture is the actual motor it's sat in the open since forever. Look at the brake booster and fan motor - the paint is all weathered off and I'd wager the motor is full with rusty water.
