I know this has been discussed many times, but this is a two part question.
Is anyone near Chesterfield Virginia that could help facilitate an engine purchase transaction/shipping?
I found a 2.8l fuel injected engine with water cooled turbos for my Biturbo (mine is 2.5l carb, oil cooled turbos), but Chesterfield is a couple of thousand of miles from me.
I'm waiting on pictures of the engine before it is a "done deal"
Depending on where in Chesterfield, that's a half-hour to an hour from me. However, I don't have much in the way of expertise (or a truck)...
Just a toss out there, I had a 800 lb engine and tranny shipped from Richmond, BC, Canada to St. Louis, MO for 300 through YRC. A little price comparison for you. Good luck.
Dock-to-dock shipping, have engine hoist, rent truck day engine arrives. Done.
I just shipped an engine from Tulsa, to San Jose, should get their Monday. Guy said he paid $260 using www.Estes-express.com
I used them to ship a motor a few years ago to CO.
Good company to use, the dock guys get their bonuses based on claims. The more damaged freight, the less they make.
Why didn't I hear of any of this truck shipping stuff BEFORE I drove from Boston to St. Louis and back with 2 turbo rotaries?!
I shipped transmissions with Greyhound before.

on ANY other forum, I'd be shocked...
I've gotta ask for the details though.

It's actually pretty cheap to ship oversized (as long as it fits under a bus) packages. My sister in law actually got a whole set of dining room chairs shipped this way... not sure if they have a per-package weight limit.
Assuming on a 36x36 pallet at 350lbs (might be light there)
FedEx 3 day freight is $182, not bad at all.

Darn, I was picturing someone riding the bus across the continent with a transmission at their feet. Maybe have the bellhousing in their lap with a wire brush to stay busy. Every once in a while spinning the input shaft, moving the clutch fork, and shifting through each gear while making "vroom vroom" noises. Old lady sitting next to them casting dirty looks.

Lol, along with the chickens and pigs running around the back of the bus. In some places this is probably no joke.
