Yah but there is a difference between an OEM modifying an engine and the aftermarket. Can you tell me exactly what was done to the 2GR in the Evora and where an end user can purchase those parts and what it will take to get them on a 2GR, you pulled from a highlander.

The problem with the LS in a German car is two fold. 1 sound. They sound like a damn camaro with just a different setting on the volume knob. 2 torque. Torque is great, I love torque, torque also breaks E36 M3 quick. I would rather have a reliable 350 hp 300 ft lbs and not have to worry about getting agressive than have 400 hp 385 ft lbs and start breaking expensive things quickly. The key to this would reliability, (hence no Audi) and no iffy spec match ups.
Torque is what moves cars. As a revvy sportycar enthusiast, it took me a long time to come around to the realization that area under the curve is all that really matters. Easier to detune than get a reliable 1500 extra rpm.

Yes, but it is harder to lose those extra 150lbs... Little port work, cams and valves are nothing compared to cutting off my kid from a motor.

ahh and thus the point of this thread. How much bang for your buck? I am sure Lotus will give you anything you want...
Theres a fairly strong aftermarket for the 2gr, lots of nice stuff thanks to the is350 and evora/exige.
I am aware of the 2GR and what people swap it into but what about the J35? Someone here mentioned miatas? Anything else?
OP what are you planning on putting one of these engines in?
In reply to kanaric:
There is the Miata thread on here, there is a J37, and a J35, S2000 swaps.
But the power profile, reliability, availability, packaging, and most importantly weight (which is giving the J-series a slight advantage over the 2GR in this thread), gives me a very silly idea...
Take as best as I can estimate ~100 off the ass of a 911 with similar HP and torque numbers. (hence the 350 hp number and happy with 335, but in reality I could probably just find a J37 and up the spring rates to get 500 RPM and get what I wanted, mentaly)
It also leaves the ability to get stupid power numbers (500~600 aparently) from a proper turbo install.
Things that make you hummm.
