Hey Shane, great to see you on the boards! It's too bad about the Miata not working out, but I don't have any hard feelings. The Z is looking good, I always wondered why you didn't just go with that for the challenge.
Miles and I are now pursuing a Spitfire project, so it'll be interesting to see which high school wins. All I'm really hoping for is that we beat up on some college kids.
Are you going to be autocrossing before the challenge? You'll have a power advantage, but I'm hoping we'll have light weight and handling.
Thanks for the welcome Tom. I was really hoping there wasn't any hard feelings between us. I actually decided to enter the challenge when I found out that you and Miles were doing the Spitfire. I thought it would be funny and I really didn't care about how I finished as long as I beat you guys Just kidding, I just want to beat anyone older than us. Are you guys keeping with team Learner's Permit? I'm hoping to have the Z done by the time school gets out so that I can get some practice with autocross all summer.
Nah, I think we're going to find a new name. We're aiming for mid-summer Spit completion (it's a bare frame at the moment), but don't worry- we'll show up and open a can of whoopass eventually.
Haha, let me know if you guys need help. I'm more than willing to, plus Miles seems to be busy 24/7. We have to drive to Gainesville together, are you driving the Spit up there?

Only one problem, they don't have any 14's which means I'd have to use part of the budget on wheels. But I think it would be worth it in the end. We'll see when the time comes for tires.
He has different sizes all the time, just keep checking him, I picked up some nice tires for $2011 from USDRRT
Nice ride! Good luck with it! And do pay close attention to your tires. The best suspension in the world won't make up for non-grippy rubber, yet good tires can make even a stock car handle a whole lot better. Used 14s should be easy to find, and fairly inexpensive.
Most importantly, have fun! It looks like you already are.

I have several used sets of Kumho V710 225-50-14s. I am sure we can work out a Challenge-friendly price.

Thanks, hopefully I can find some pretty cheap. I'd buy a couple sets

That would be great, I'd love to work something out. Would that be allowed in the autocross portion of the challenge? I thought that slicks weren't allowed for the autocross.
Drag slicks aren't allowed due to floppy sidewall. V710s would be legal.
Cool! It's not like I need slicks anyway. I assume when it's running well it will make 250-275 to the wheels. I can figure something out, maybe some old Nittos or something.
Bushings are pretty cheap http://www.sparktecmotorsports.com/es-7-18101.html
So are sway bars http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/23-4101
V710s are not slicks. They have two rain grooves
I've noticed, would it be possible to use them for drag and the autcross?

Many people use their autocross tires for the drags-and are slow! (me included) Used drag slicks are cheap, start searching craigslist now and you can easily get a pair for sub $100 by challenge time.
Really? That's completely opposite of what I thought. What kind of slicks do you guys recommend?
The autocross slicks have a very stiff sidewall to avoid lateral flex, drag slicks have very flexible sidewalls to allow the sidewall to wind up a little on launch. It is depressing how poorly an autocross tire does in the drags.
Oh wow, so the sidewall is the real difference.
that imtake plenum is a rare peice and along with the carbs is worth dang near the entire budget!
It sure is, and I got all of that and a 240z and my 280z for the price of $400
Came up with a team name, Team Angry Rooster. What do you guys think?
