I love it when a plan comes together.

You & me both brother! Wicked easier than narrowing an axle!

Next: How hard is it to swap the 2:73s to something lower?

2.73, 3.08, 3.25, and 3.55 will bolt into the case without issue, new pinion seal, lube and crush sleeve and a little patience will make be all you will need. 3.73, 3.90 and 4.11 are available out of Ranger rear axles and depending on the case you have should swap in also with the same luck.

Remember that if you use the 13" wheel and a short tire you are effectively lowering the gear ratio (larger numerically) which will allow you to keep the revs where you need them.

Thanks. I doubt this car will ever go over 100 mph or have to cruise for hours at highway speeds, lower is better. I'd rather shift early than bog.

I have bought used 3.55:1 Explorer rear ends for $50.00 and used the gearsets for honging Mustangs and Capris in my previous life.
