Both SWMBO and myself drive 5 lug Hondas. Both cars already have 2 sets of wheels/tires(15" steel/snows, 16" alloy/summers). I just received an extra set of 16" steel wheels.
Option 1, full size spare tires for both cars. Boring but sensible.
Option 2, I run a dedicate autoX set. If so, between the alloys and the steelies, which do I DD, which do I race?(Alloys have the TPMS installed) Fun, but expensive, as I'm already buying 3 new sets of tires by the spring.
I vote for a set of Hoosier A6s because it's not my money. Put 'em on alloys. Cheap steelies flex more than you would think.
I vote for a dedicated set of autocross tires also. Just have a AAA membership or use a spare tire in case of a puncture.
In reply to Giant Purple Snorklewacker: Stock classes will have a 200 TW limit next year, so no A6.
For tire rack options that leaves me with R-S3(V2), ZII, or RE-11A in 205/55/16.
BTW, all my steelies are from TR, FWIW.
For the Miata I have cheap alloys with the all season/winter tires. A set of nicer alloys with ZIIs for summer and AutoX use. And now another set of decent alloys with Hoosier SM7s mounted to try my hand at CSP.
Add the old set from the tow pig stacked under the deck and my place is starting to look like a tire store.

The corner of my basement has 8 fulls sets of mounted wheels and tires and a set of bare wheels, soon it will be 9.
In use is the second sets from Dad's '05 Dak, SWMBO's '03 Accord, my '09 Civic. No longer in use is 2 sets from my neons, dad's '93 F150, mom's '99 Taurus, mom's '07 Accord(wheels in question) and wheels only from mom's '07 taurus. Soon there will be a second set for mom's new Legacy.
I've always found that 5 sets of wheels/tires is the sweet sport per a vehicle.
1) no seasons, hear me out, for commuting and lasting 30-40k a modern pseudo high performance touring no season tire isn't a terrible option
2) snow tires, because they make every car so amazing in the snow that you'll swear up and down to all of your friends and on every internet forum that (blank) is the best vehicle ever for winter driving when properly equipped with snow tires
3) high performance summer tires, because starspecs are like a $60 Victoria's secret bra. they're an upgrade that will even make the lowliest 4 spd manual 1987 Toyota Tercel handle curves in a way that you'd never expect from a lowly tired out B spec car when it comes to curves.
4) R compounds, See high performance tire comments, only with the lights off and $60 under garment torn off and torn across the room.
5) proper gravel rally tires, See R compound comment, only with the lights on again, GoPro rolling and a midget in the back, doing things so dirty that if you use great caution could end up as a snuff film if you end up in the trees.
pay it forward........?????????
give them to someone who may need them???
because I need to put new tyres on them. The snows for my Disco are currently sitting under the mast for my sailboat, keeping it out of the grass. Soon I will build a dedicated mast holding system.. but for now, they work great
I'm leaning towards a set of autoX wheels. I'm about to drop Sundays at work because I can and that will leave me time enough for a dedicated Auto X season and an SCCA membership. Even better is I am in between 2 fairly active regions, SNY and the Glen Region.
Top pick of tire for now is the Hankook Ventus R-S3(V2) on grounds of price. Those will go on the alloys and the steelies will get some Cooper CS5s for the rest of the summer. Best part is SWMBO is encouraging this!

I've seen em flex enough to tear the center right out on a 1/4 mile oval, on street tires.
Use your winter tires as a full size spare. Chances are that you won't need them and if you do it will only be for the miles home to get the busted tire repaired/replaced. I did this on my MR2 with my winters and it was a good place to hide one of them. Alternatively, if you can't run race tread for Auto-x, store one of those in your spare tire well.
