So I'm in the process of installing my harnesses and have realized that the inner lap belts would need to be mounted to the tranny tunnel to fit correctly and in the right angles for the harness. My initial thought was that the eye bolts shouldn't be mounted this way - they should only be mounted so that the direction of force is always pulling them top to bottom in the direction of the bolt so that there was no sheering force on the bolt - that the stress would be placed more on the backing plates. However, I'm seeing a few reputable shops/stores showing illustrations of eye-bolts mounted sideways in the tranny tunnel - is this acceptable? See this image for what I'm talking about - this is what I thought you weren't supposed to do.
