Points for pole position would be interesting - I'm pretty sure Mercedes would have welcomed that this year.

I would like to see points for pole and maybe a point(s) for fastest lap.
Personally I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out at Ferrari. I have a feeling that most of next years excitement will be between the 2 red cars.
I think points for pole and fastest lap would be better than double points for the last race.
Or have Charlie Whiting randomly pick one race at any point of he season for double points...and don't tell the teams until the formation lap. If we are getting gimmicky lets go full bore.

Damn, I didn't realize double points was official. I just thought it was another Bernie bein' Bernie story. Absolutely stupid.
I don't think it'll matter either. Next year is going to come down to which engine manufacturer manages to build something that won't blow up.

It's really not fair that Abu Dhabi gets two gimmicks for one race, day-to-night AND double points?
I think their idea is to prevent teams from giving up development halfway through the year to work on next year's car. Either way, stupid rule. This is F1 not Family Feud. We're just a stone's throw a way from artificially wet tracks and banana peels from Mario Kart.
And next year will ride a great deal on who can make a reliable engine, and possibly one packaged the tightest for aero purposes.

Any new points configuration will only make F1 more confusing and contrived. It would be interesting if they got rid of team radio's so it would be harder for teams to give orders that water down the sport!

Well some sense is prevailing. The teams rejected a two pit stop regulation that was suggested by Pirelli who wanted to make a rule stating that the hard tire could not be used for more than 50% of the racing laps and force people to use two sets of the soft tires.

In another bit of news, do you recall Pirelli insisted they had to have a tire test this year for the 2014 spec tires? When the FIA have relented and all teams are invited to a three day test in Bahrain on December 17th. 18th & 19th. It seems like late notice, but apparently Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Force India and Toro Rosso have all confirmed with Lotus, Sauber, Williams, Marussia and Caterham all looking to miss it. In other words the teams with money are going and those in money trouble are not, what a shocker!! The teams will be using the 2013 cars with the 2014 tires.
I actually liked the two pit stop idea if it was combined with Pirelli being able make sticky tires that didn't marble apart. Like Bridgestone did back in the 2000s. Then the drivers woildnt be driving to a delta and could actually race.

Agreed, if two stops are needed. If team A can make a car that's easy on the tires so they only need one stop go for it. If team B has a E36 M3 hot fast car , let them burn the tires up and do two or more stops. Stop berkeleying regulating us out of a sport. Put some serious serious limitations on the aero downforce and put big ass berkeleying tires on the car so mechanical grip is more important, let cars get close to each other without the issues of over heating tires etc.
Such concern over the double points thing! I don't think it's that big of a deal, personally. A bit silly and unnecessary? Yeah, probably. But come on, we already have little flaps in the rear wings that can only open on certain parts of the track at certain times when you are a certain distance from the car in front. We already have a limited-time power boost activated by a button on the steering wheel. We already have tires that are deliberately made of used bubblegum to force more pit stops. And I don't mind any of it. Yeah, the racing was more "pure" before these things came along, but it was also quite boring.
You must remember, F1 is a money-making entertainment enterprise first, and a "sport" second.
Hopefully the "double points" will die off like Bernie's idea of having a short cut you were allowed to take during the race.

I disagree, all those other things you mention are open to everyone at every race. It doesn't give one person an edge. Double points in once race is a whole different thing.
Yes, F1 is a money making entertainment, but to keep making money it has to have some credibility, much as the days of Ferrari International Assistnace, rules written to give an unfair advantage are a loosing prospect in the long term.
The original plan was for the last FOUR races to be double points.....I can live with the last race being double....kinda like a wildcard thing....wish the last race were someplace else though..........

I don't, I wouldn't mind more sharing between teams like Torro Rosso and Red Bull, or McLAren and Force India, Ferrari, Sauber etc, but not customer chassis. Look what Dallara has done to every other berkeleying series out there.
