Lewis Hamilton is World Champion. Way to go!
Insane last 4 laps! Way to go Hamilton! My DVR cut off the post race interviews. I really wanted to see them too.

I was hoping for a Massa/Ferrari win also. What a heart breaker!!
Wow... yea... I watched the whole race then got a phone call on the last 4 laps so sort of missed it. I saw that Hamilton got passed and lost 5th... which means he wouldn't win AGAIN, and I was just pissed and I sort of saw that he managed to win because something happened with Timo where he like slowed down (hopefully not just to affect the outcome of the race) so Hamilton got 5th back and won the championship...
But thank god. I mean, poor guy is an excellent driver... how could he lose the championship on the last race 2 years in a row?! So all in all I'm glad Hamilton won.
Timo gambled on dry tires in the rain, and he was losing a ton of speed to the guys behind him, they finally caught him as he made a mistake in the last corner falling to 6th and elevating Lewis to the championship.
The look on Felipe's dad's face is about the same look that I had on my face when I saw that. I really don't like Felipe, but I don't like Lewis even more (I am an Alonso fan).
but it was exciting, and action packed, and contrary to what I thought going into the race, It was a gentlemanly affair without protest or controversy. Lewis nearly lost himself the championship several times this season, but he came out with it in the end, good show old chap. Alonso 2009!
Yet another sport I can no longer seem to find the time (or TiVo unit) to watch :(
They still use V10s? Haha. That's how long it's been since I watched...2.4L V8s now, right?
Too bad Timo didn't pit for rain tires
congrats Hamilton
Massa has the heart of a champ
Alonso will sweep '09
Had he pitted for tires the outcome would have been less in doubt since he wouldn't have been in from of Hamilton.
I was rooting for both. I prefer Hamilton and absolutely hate Alonso. If you look up Unsportsmanlike Conduct and Not Worthy of Winning Anything in the dictionary you will find Alonso's picture. The crap he pulled last year at McClaren and the comments he's made this year disqualify him in my book. He's a black eye on the sport or car racing and helps further tarnish F1s image. They would do well to get rid of him on moral grounds.
Unfortunately I accidentally opened this thread just as I began to watch the TIVO's Practice,Qualifying and race. I usually save them all 3 for Sunday evenings.
It was hard not to spill the beans to my wife who kept saying "I can't watch this, you HAVE to tell me who wins!" Fortunately I didn't know who won, all I knew was that Hamilton won the Championship.
They kept talking about how vast the changes were for next year and how the cars would be changing looks drastically. Where can I find some pics of what next year's cars will likely look like?
I was just watching the Historic Races at Monterray and they had the F1 cars from the 60s thru the late 70's running and it pointed up just how much the cars had changed over the years. Are we looking at a quantitative leap in looks next year?
I thought all they were doing was limiting the aero some and letting them run slicks. Running slicks might not be such a good idea. While on dry tracks it should mean more rubber on the road, think of all the races they've had this year where there was some water involved. Even the least little bit of water could spell their doom.
Well when the track starts to get wet, everyone will start diving to the pits. It might be chaotic, it might enhance the racing, no one's really sure I don't think. The look of the cars will be a bit more streamlined. They showed a "preview" of it in F1 magazine a while ago. Picture the cars of 10 years ago. Still the same basic shape, but just without the majority of those random aero add-ons all over the car.
I'm looking forward to the slicks and aero reduction, but KERS.... not so much. It's basically Champ Cars push-to-pass, and I think that's just too gimmicky for racing.
As far as the race goes, now that I'm a bit more calmed down... I was so gutted for Massa not only because it would've been another Cinderella story, but I really think he was the more deserving driver. He had more wins and second place finishes than Hamilton. If it wasn't for the car grenading in Hungary, he should've had an extra 10 points. The pit lane disaster in Singapore cost him another 10 points. It seemed like most of Hamilton's misfortune this year was driver error, like when he ran into Kimi in the pits when there was a red flag. Although the questionable penalty at Spa would've given Hamilton a few extra points and an extra race win. Massa made some bad mistakes as well, especially at Australia. Plus his hideous race at Silverstone. But I think the one at Singapore is what really cost him, and he had no control over it at all.
And frankly I just like Massa a lot more than I like Hamilton. Hamilton is always saying how calm he is, and how he feels no pressure, etc, etc, and to me it makes him feel fake. I don't believe him half the time. And that on top of everyone talking about him all the time just makes me not root for the guy. I was so excited for Massa to win the championship in front of his family, at his home race, with really no shot at winning the thing. Massa drove the better race. Hamilton didn't deserve it. It was his to lose, and he did as far as I'm concerned.
McLaren/Hamilton fans won't agree with me, but that's the way I feel.
Wow, what an ending!
As a Hamilton fan, it was a gut wrenching finish- to have a few bad corners and let Vettel by, not being able to challenge him.... Ugh...
And then the glimmer of white and red- whoa- that's Glock! Pass for 5th- and championship!!!!!
I thought Hamitlon did deserve the victory- he had a much more consistent season- and a few questionable calls. Lets not forget the time when Masa drove into Bourdais to force Bordais into a penalty- which netted one point.
And had the Spa penalty been the other way, Hamilton would have had one more victory than Masa- so the tie breaker was given to Masa not from who actually finished first on track.... As I see it. We are not huge fans of Masa, and fans of Hamilton and Alonso...

I'm all for slicks but less aero? Why?
Hybrids are going to be such a jokey publicity stunt. It will all be about who can engineer a hybrid powertrain that could technically work and meet the rules, but will actually be a lightweight withered vestigal organ of a thing that will never be used.
Am I the only person thinking Timo Glock will never have a Ferrari contract?
Actually from what I've seen they won't be hybrids in the "Prius" sense of the word. The system is called KERS or Kinetic Energy Recovery System and re-uses the energy from braking to help accelerate the car.

With less areo the cars theoretically should not be as unsettled in traffic which MAY lead to passing, where one car overtakes another on the track instead of during pitstops or by a Mechanical falure or driver error.
I think Timo would be retarded to even think of a ride at Ferrari. Toyota is just as dedicated to a win, and obviously they are improving.
I doubt the hybrid systems won't be used. With the talent, ingenuity and backing F1 teams have, there's no way they won't be able to take advantage of the extra energy.
Toyota, the Red Bull Ferrari powered, team and Renault all seem to have made great strides this year.
But they'll all start from square one now.
I can't wait to see the new Honda machine. They've made such a big deal about putting all their efforts into next year's car rather than working on this year's that it must be some sort of winnin' machine.
I've never understood why Honda doesn't do much better at F1. It seems to be their kinda engine.
I thought Honda's race ended fittingly considering how bad their season went. I was laughing when the car burst into flames in the queue following the race. Here's hoping Braun and the new KERS rules give Honda a fighting chance in 2009....
And I was thrilled with the race, 2008 was the most exciting F1 season in my history of watching since about 1999. Rain races rule!
I did feel a bit bad for Massa, but I was glad to see McLaren over Ferrari. I really enjoyed the shot of the Ferrari pit in mid-celebration when they realized that Hamilton had pulled it out and all their grins turned to dismay.
