Amen. I would LOVE a 5.0 Ranger 5 speed 4x4 (and may have to build my own).
too many ferds now . . . .
After the 4.6 "fiasco", I believe Ford finally got this one right or at least, very close to right.
The above picture just needs a Boss intake and ditch the whole blower idea.
Hey, I wouldn't call the last model 4.6s a "fiasco". Mine's pretty strong. The early ones, yes, so maybe they decided to get it right the first time instead of evolving into it. the new coyotes still worry me for longevity using unsleeved Aluminum cylinders, time will tell.
We've got an iron 5.0 in an explorer and it's the only way to go. I can't image a Coyote in a ranger.
Wait, yes I can. OOooooooooooooooo..............

I haven't met a 4.6 I have liked yet and most likely won't ever.
As for the aluminum sleeves, Ford has been tickering with this idea for well over 10 yrs. Mike Tymensky had a prototype 4.6 block with the plasma coating on aluminum sleeves back in 2000 running NMRA Hot Street, a low 9 sec NA headsup class. Plus Ford did that performance pack on the GT500 with the same tech on a 5.4 aluminum block last year.
That's a shame. I think my 4.6L is offended. LOL.
I figured they've done the testing, and a 9sec car certainly sees some abuse. Ditto on some of the 500s, but I am still interested to see how it stands up to the average driver in the real world. I'm just saying I won't be dropping one in my car yet. I hope you're right, I hope they are bullet proof because I really, REALLY like that motor. It kind of makes me want to supercharge mine on the off chance I'll kill it, just to have an excuse to retrofit the Coyote.
Now if they could just straighten out the problems with the 6spd MTs it'll be a kindler, gentler world...
What this means is that the mod motors will get even cheaper for low millage good ones making them a candidate for swaps. Yes I know there are size issues with these motors. I can not believe that the mod motor in my expedition is only 4.6l it is the size of a big block!!! but if the prices drop for good ones people like me will look at them as an option.
