Car is a 1986 RX7 GXL- posted this in my build thread but reposting here for more visibility.
As I get further into the wiring I'm finding more of these splices wrapped in yellow/green tape:
They look like this unwrapped:
They tend to have the right wire colors, and are MUCH better quality than the rest of the wiring hackery on this car- did Mazda put these here?
Yes.
Gm, mopar, and ford used them too.
And the tape is factory Mazda color.
Thanks, that is both a relief and kind of scary at the same time 
There are a lot of them in the harness.
