So, I thought about posting this in the Delusional Craigslist ads thread, but then thought about the dollars it would cost to create it. Is this way overpriced or justified? I know it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. To me, it seems like a lot of money for a track only car that is not a legal racecar. Discuss.
LX-7's typically trade for about $25,000, so this one is not out of line. I bet it's fast as hell.
No doubt they spent a small fortune building it. With that said, they could have built a car that was perfectly streetable and safe to track at the same time.
In reply to ScreaminE:
I concur. Not the cleanest conversion I've ever seen either.

That cage scares me a great deal. It's rather unfortunate, because there's a lot of really good parts there, but it appears to be terrible execution. Sort of the opposite of what i'm used to seeing here. Garbage parts (quite literally in a lot of cases) and gorgeous execution.
Not my favorite I have ever seen but that swap is on my short list of cars I would do unspeakable things for.

Yeah. What in the world is that cage all about given some of the other fab work that has been done.

Full roll bar ( not adequate for most sanctioning racing organizations)

If someone wanted to use it for track days and autocrosses, it would be worth it.
I've been around FDs quite a bit and own a rotary powered FD. This one seems a bit pricey considering it's a track only car - no interior, no ABS, race fuel tank - but it has some really nice racey parts on it like the brakes and wheels and mechanicals.
The front part of that cage looks like an add-on to a very popular roll bar that is NLA.
I see LS-swapped FDs for sale in various states of completeness/quality all the time for 20-30k. Whether they are selling at those prices, I have no idea...

Because bare FD shells command 8k in some areas.
Do my eyes deceive me or does the roll cage mount to the strut bar? WTF?
Love how its got a built LS engine, full race interior and a fuel cell, but a cage that looks like it as taken out of an old bomber class circle track car or something, right down to being rusty.

I don't think the concept of what a roll cage is supposed to do was fully grasped.
That said besides the beautiful body the rotary engine is always what did it for me on these cars. I bet its fast but the ls1 ruins the alure of the car for me.
That so called roll bar would have to go pronto. Like, I wouldn't trust it at all. Worse: when I see something that poorly thought (?) out when I first look at a car, it calls into serious question the rest of the build.
My dad once bought a 'restored' '69 E Type, really pretty car. The clutch got wonky pretty fast, I disassembled the master cylinder only to find that the 'restorer' had the wrong size rubber cup seal and had 'fixed' it by wrapping black thread around the piston 'stub' that the seal went onto. That made me start looking closely at the rest of the car and it became very obvious there were a LOT of shortcuts taken. This car reminds me of that.
Not sure I would even offer half for it.
If they had an interior in the car, maybe. They built a stripped out, not good for anything vehicle. The cage does not look to fit well, its build wrong, and I wouldn't want it in my vehicle.
Thats the easy way out. I have seen decently sorted street versions go for 25k. So this is by far too much. At least IMHO.
