Today, I got a registration renewal notice in the mail. I noticed that there is a $10 fee for the Federal Clean Air Act. I may have overlooked this little surcharge in the past, but what's the deal? I have a hard time believing that my 2004 Subaru is a major contributor to global warming.
It's to finance the Health Care Program pollution will cause to unsuspecting citizens sucking O2 in & out.
Everybody pays in fascism.
Did you breath in the past year? Then the EPA says you polluted the pristine Earth atmosphere with EVIL CO2. You must be stopped, or taxed. Welcome to Change.
Well, that was fast.
Reminds me of a friend of mine test flying an RC plane. Hand launched at a 45 degree angle, what he did not realize is the elevators where hooked up backwards, went for a short time then made a quick full power dive straight into the ground.
Are Flounders on the EPA endangered list?

Flounders emit CO2 and are polluters.
Now that it seems that a dog is more of a problem than an SUV as far as CO2 goes is there going to be a federal dog tax? Of course, 95% will get a tax break, so I'm not worried. I will not pay an additional cent in taxes. Seriously, I heard it on the campaign trail.
The environmentalists were talking about banning dogs because of their carbon footprint. Before that they were also talking about banning SUVs and Single Family Homes for the same reason.
I won't be holding my breath waiting for any of those bans. They don't even have enough votes to pass Cap and Trade yet.
You can have my puppy when you take him from my cold dead hand Mr. GORE!
On a related note, car registration fees increased a bunch here in FLA this year. Our Governor Charlie Crist responded to critics by saying "hey, its better than a tax!"
Right, it isn't a tax even though nearly EVERYONE has to pay it! Man I hate politicians.

Everybody gets a permit for one 20 pound dog. If you want an 80 pound dog you will have to buy three additional permits from your dogless neighbors and the whole thing will be brokered through Goldman Sachs with their usual fees.
Yeah. That's how it would work.

Government at work. In GA, the state took away funding to colleges, so colleges asked the regents for a tuition hike. Regents said no - you can't raise the price of college in the middle of a recession. So now, instead of a tuition hike, They assessed a $200 "Special Fee".

I hear that there is law in the works to change everyone's birthday to April 14th so it will be ruined by having to do their taxes. Its part of a massive conspiracy to make you all miserable.

Yeah I get that from women a lot ....
What state do you live in? I did an online search and found that Connecticut has a $10 Federal Clean Air Act fee but didn't find any other states doing so. I recently renewed the registration on one of my cars and didn't have any such charges, so it's apparently on a state by state basis.

It's true.
Government math:
If they give EVERYONE a tax cut of, say, $8-10 per month they can truthfully say they gave EVERYONE a tax cut. They DO NOT have to say a NET tax cut. So, the additional fees (like the Clean Air Act Fee), the tax for failure to pay their Health Insurance, death tax, wealthy tax, tax for not being a moronic leech on society, and any other tax desired can all be piled on top of the first tax cut. It makes no difference if the NET total is an across the board tax INCREASE of several thousand dollars. As long as they can honestly say they cut something, then all they need is a bunch of people who never understood third grade mathematics to BELIEVE enough to get them to the polls, and Voila! CHANGE we can BELIEVE in.

Yup, Connecticut. As a bonus, we get to pay annual property tax on our cars, too. It's no wonder that we're unhappy.

Mass just sent me a renewal bill for $140 to register my 7000 pound car trailer for the upcoming year. I gave the trailer to my dad and he registered it in RI for $26. Another added bonus- no more excise tax bill every year as well.
