I drove the Mustang to work today; it seems so huge parked next to the Datsun but clearly it's small. The Kia Soul (er, I mean Scion XB) next to it is the same size.

You really meant to say Scion XB but that's ok. The mustang is still big compared to the my garage but yeah in the real world, it's pretty tiny.
Park a BMW Mini next to a real Mini.
There's nothing Mini about them.

I've been meaning to park my '93 Lightning next to a current F150. Trucks have gotten insane.
Even an actual Kia Soul made my E36 look tiny....

That looks like a Scion XB to me..............but I've be known to confuse them.
I am continually amazed at how big cars have gotten.

Park one next to a Z32, a car hated in its time because of how big it was.

I had a '76. A Weber conversion made it more drivable. The manually adjusted drum brakes were a constant annoyance. Overall, not a bad little truck.
These pictures are blowing my mind.
I looked up the length of a 3rd gen Fit, and it supposedly 20 inches shorter than your S60R. Sure doesn't look it though.

Some of it is the perspective is shifted towards the fit a little bit. It's not like a stacked silhouette photo.

If you want something to scale the pic by, the Fit has 16" wheels and the Volvo has 17".
The wheelbases are not very dissimilar but the Fit has a lot less overhang. And a lot taller greenhouse.
Better crash safety also makes things fatter.
My Starlet was a big go-kart but at 1700lbs, crash safety was all up to me.
