As some of the S2000 work is turning into more of a resto with some mods, I'm trying to address some of the interior rattles that these are somewhat infamous for. Several panels on the interior have deteriorating adhesive anti-rattle strips on them and I'm trying to replace them. Got to figure out what to replace them with, though.

The material currently on the car looks like foam material. Googling suggests that what I'm looking for is actually felt tape which seems to be mostly be advertised as wiring loom tape. Is that the correct material and if not, any chance someone could point me at the right stuff in end-user quantities?

I imagine it depends on what is rattling. I’ve had some luck with felt adhesive pads where contact between plastic/metal panels was occurring. Sounds like a slightly different thing to what you’re describing. Never tried felt tape before, but it seems like it’s worth a try.

I'm mostly looking at isolating the surfaces on clipped together plastic panels like the dashboard. Not going to rip it apart far enough to do something about the plastic/metal contact around the dash itself, but I may end up pulling a bunch of the interior panels out.

I've seen people use the stick-on felt circles that are intended for furniture legs. The hardware store will have it in small square sheets, too.

Sounds like I might be on the right track then. I've just ordered some felt tape from the Big River company, let's see how well that is going to work out.

3M friction tape works well for that purpose and it's available on most big box stores/Amazon.

You, too?

Seems to be a pretty common place.

In the 80s when GM made cars that rattled and squeaked right of the car carrier we used to use double sided foam tape of various thicknesses.  I don't know how well that held up long term but it would keep them quiet long enough to get them out of warranty.

I use felt tape to make interiors less E36 M3ty ALL THE TIME.
