Hey Aussie, I bet your pants are getting tight right about now huh?
Is there a Ute Hall of Fame?
I like the part about towing a trailer. Seems like it would be a joy with a fwd vehicle that size, lol.
Best use of Fillion ever.
Dear God in heaven!

Either you had a completely different reaction than me, or your family life is a little different than most...

Since most of us here have seen your mom naked, I will just say that the reactions are probably pretty similar...
Some may like what they see, others, not so much.

I expect all of us here will be very careful to not post that something is "like seeing your mom naked", henceforth.
What we need is that drivetrain in this. Much easier on the eyes
I'm going to go do some googling now to find the name of the company that built that, because they had tow truck conversions for several euro cars, including, I think an Audi quatro.
Forget what I said about the olds drivetrain in the SAAB, I want it in this!

Isn't that basically the front half of a Saab welded to a car trailer?
/starts scouring CL for car trailers and turbo Volvos hit in the rear.
The idea of a FWD flatbed tow vehicle seems kind of sketchy to me though. Not sure why, just does.
That sounds complicated. Might actually be easier to fabricate the thing yourself. I'm thinking that the best chance of success would involve the hauler section's tubing extending as far forward as possible on the car chunk. Right up to the subframe, if possible.
What I really dig about that Oldsmobomination is the side-hinged clamshell closure thing that he worked out.
Unstated is that the engine/trans combo is just about unkillable. The trans for certain was used for motorhomes, I forget if it was with the Olds engine or the Caddy 500. Either way, in any kind of tow vehicle the trans becomes the weak link, and if it's good enough for a motorhome then it will shrug off throwing a Miata on the back.

We've had this conversation before, but I honestly don't remember how it ended .
Clearly FWD car based haulers are a real thing in europe. I wouldn't be afraid of one, so long as it were properly constructed by people who knew exactly what they were doing.

how about a camper that is made out of the exact same drivetrain and probably the same chassis?
would that also seem sketchy to you?
Not sure on the price, as in how do you compare it to anything, but if that thing is built straight and solid, I think your mom is HAWT!!!
Now this is unsafe car hauling
There's an (I think) FWD Caddy limousine for sale nearby, and I've been having naughty ideas about converting it into a flatbed hauler just like this one...
