That's the way I would want to do it.

Stop crying. Buy it in black and destroy pretty much everything on the track and street. If you want something to pull bitches (and they are all bitches), buy a 348 ts, they can be had for under $30 now. You better know how to wrench though. If you want a K engine buy an elise with a blown engine and dump one in that. If you want a DSM get a superlite apex.

Methinks someone from FFR didn't like what you had to say.

I believe the wheels in the picture were photoshopped in, I think the nose looks better in the full picture without the wheels. Time will tell...

BTW, hopefully everyone noticed the plywood splitter, they must have seen reading the LeGrand series...

regardless of wheels, when the nose and the door are the same length, and the engine isnt in the nose, you have too much overhang.

Nah not from FFR and not buying an 818, already have a spec miata that takes up all my time. If anything it would be the catfish as I know the miata like the back of my hand. I just can't stand the stupid comments. It is what it is, if you don't like it move on to one of a million other cars on the market. If someone is talking esthetics, they are obviously buying this type of car for the wrong reason, buy the looker (Ferrari). Others wanted a project for a K and DSM engine, I gave them the option. Do you understand my comment now or do I have to spell it out more...

We live on hashing out over stupid comments. I agree it is what it is. I'm just disappointed in what it turned out to be. I also disagree about not buying this car for the aesthetics. I would argue the #1 reason anyone would go through the effort to build a kit car is because they like how it looks. If performance was the sole reason, one could spend a lot less money to go much faster.

^yeah I do agree with you, probably went a little overboard with aesthetics not being a factor. If the car is ugly no matter how fast it is, I wouldn't spend all my hard earn money and time building one. I have no plans to buy one, but I think personally it looks pretty nice so far. I can't give you my honest opinion till I see the final product in the flesh. Yeah you have your LSx miatas, e36s, 240s, rx7s, etc etc. I still think a well built 818 will out perform these for the same price. I run silviaV8.com and have built and raced a monster LS2 s13 (sold now), and have done a few track days in my buddies FD LS1 car. These cars are bloody fast, but I still think a lighter and better engine placement 818 will outperform them on the track. All this said an LS3 catfish would be my dream car right now.

As far as there being too much overhang, I'm not too sure. Overhang allows you to blend nose bodywork back into the rest of the body more gracefully than the something like the prototype cars.

It can create issues getting up driveways, but look at an XKE and without the longer nose they'd never have made that gorgeous body.

As long as the overhang is cosmetic and not a lot of weight then it won't change handling characteristics.

I'll wait until a few important this get added, like lights, windshield, and DOORS, before I pass judgment. Those missing things screw up the lines making it look like a half assed KTM X-Bow.

It strikes me that some here have the unfortunate tendency to eat their young. Half the posts on the Toybaru bitch about it. Now we get to hear how hideous the 818 is. Clearly we'd be better off with a bunch of rental-spec sedans because these god-awful enthusiast vehicles are just stinking up the place

I concurred earlier that I'd like the kit sans the body. The reason being that I have wanted to find a space frame mid engined kit for my body design. I think the 818 body is ok and would look way more finished than my concept. I just wouldn't want it for myself. I am excited about the project, though.

Way better than a normal E Type IMO.

Errrm 010010guy...first, as a newcomer I wouldn't necessarily expect you to be aware of the contest that was conducted here between ff5 And grm to help design the body. There were some ridiculously talented offerings posted. The "winner" was seriously sexy with great proportions and a very graceful stance. That thing ff5 has shown us was reported by a supposed ex employee of the group (or something) as a design that existed before the contest, and in my opinion, looks almost nothing like the winner. That ugly ass car has all the aesthetic styling cues of an early 90s firebird mulletmobile.

Second, I'm not sure where you get off telling people to post something useful after your weird dsm k engine post.

Hang around a bit and get to know the place before you spout off like your opinion has clout.

Without getting into the aesthetic debate I'll just say that mechanicals and packaging are dictating the amount of overhang. Those same parameters also ruled out the buildability of some of the design submissions.
