The R version is their race version. This pic was posted this AM showing the front clip with lights:

I'd rather have the street frame more closely resemble the "R". In particular, with such a low car I really like some of the higher bars to help prevent intrusion from a side impact.
Right now I can't justify an 818 as a pure toy, so being able to commute with one a few days a week would be a big plus. Things like the top, weather-tight cabin, and safety are high on my priority list. I fully realize that these priorities conflict with what the average 818 customer is looking for, so I'm hoping it's a wild success and will spawn an aftermarket to cover those areas (assuming they're not addressed by FFR).
In the end, I may just have to keep saving until I can buy one as a pure toy...

Got it. Thanks. So like the Cobra and Cobra Challenge options.
Every time I look at it I see a 3/4 scale Viper that got the rice-boy treatment. I don't hate it but it sure is not my first choice of body styles.
Yeah I think I could live with it but the looks aren't compelling...it just looks too "generic" somehow. Needs some K1 Attack influence - a car with very similar proportions actually:
Notice that there's no shortage of front overhang.
Hello again, new pics of the painted body being mounted to the R chassis have been posted: 818 SEMA Update WITH PICS!

Sure. Here you go:
I like it. I like it alot. BUT there is something not correct about the proportionality of the headlights. I don't know if they are just to big or if it is the shape. Really I am nit picking. I like it. My previous comment about rice boy meets viper still sands but it is still a really cool car.
Now we need you to take the 818 chassis and put a GTM body that has been modified with a targa top on it. How close are the wheelbase of the 818 and the GTM?
Camry Headlights?
They look much better on 818. Kind of like how Hyundai Sonata taillights look much better on the Noble M400.
Would be nice if they could just post a side-on profile shot of the car. With all the angles they shoot pics from it's hard to actually SEE how big or small of a front or rear overhang it is....

Shape or whatever - what annoys me about the headlights is that they're from a car with reflector low and high-beams. I'd rather they used some off a car that has projectors (and or optional HID).....
Where could they get such an light?....use the ones from the 08-11 impreza/WRX/STi.. impreza and WRX are halogens, or spend a bit more and get the STi HIDs. All are interchangeable.
