Rednecks really do have more fun.
For those that may not know, in this the front car is powered, the middle car is empty and the rear car is steered by the second driver. I helped some friends build one of these in the early 90's that raced at Saugus. I am sure there was a requirement for the rear "steerer" to not be sober. This was the California redneck version of trailer racing.
There is a "night of destruction" event a few times each summer at the local speedway. Train races, trailer races, boat races, buses, skid cars, etc, etc. How no one has gotten seriously injured or killed is amazing...
Here in ultra-sophisticated Florida we have a semi-annual Crash-A-Rama, held at Orlando Speedworld.
I've competed in the figure-8 schoolbus races on 4 occasions and they are a hoot! No safety requirements, no tech, hardly any rules......it's madness. Fun, but mad. My bus got hit going through the "X" once, rolled and caught fire---- that pleased the crowd. The safety crew was there quickly to put out the blaze, and it was a rockstar moment, as I had about 6K hillbillies cheering for me when I emerged from the wreckage. Fun times!
One race I won't do is the trailer races. No one empties out their RVs, or boats, or whatever they are towing, so the track gets scattered with debris. (forks, toilets, cabinetry, etc) I've always thought those guys are nuts, as the chances of getting impaled is quite good.
If you go to spectate, bring goggles, and a long sleeved shirt---especially for the kids. Even with a catch fence, all kinds of small particles and debris pelts the spectators. Even watching can be a bit hazardous. The first time I attended I couldn't believe the lawyers hadn't shut it down yet....... I'm amazed these things still happen. It's like going to a state fair in the 50s.

Interesting. I used to love the Train Racing at Saugus. I may have seen your work. I remember seeing some sort of mini-stock race there where someone had a rotary car (maybe RX3-4?) with an open exhaust... that pointed towards the grandstands... that backfired EVER corner entrance... ouch.
The sad thing is the raceway is still there, they just torn down the grandstands and only use it for swap meets and such.
The best chain race team I’ve seen was at Bowman-Gray where the lead car was painted like the General Lee and the trailing car was a Hazzard County Sheriff.

The same guy that runs that event also makes a trip up to Erie, PA and does Crash-a-rama there too. I've helped my friends in the pits over the last couple years. My favorite part is the trailer racing. The local SCCA club also uses the track for their events, and I cringe as I hear the track getting ripped to shreds at Crash-a-rama.

I've lost held the belief that if the world was nuked tomorrow, rednecks are the ones you want as friends. They just know everything about living and have no fear.

I moved from Simi valley to Orlando in 94 so didn't know what happened to speedway. With the growth out there over the past 30 years, I am surprised the land has not been developed.

That was a blast to watch. Hard for me to see something like that and resist the urge to participate.
I do cringe to think of the cleanup after. That was a complete and total mess all over the facilities.
I'm really looking forward to Slamfest at Slinger Speedway this summer. Now that my kid is old enough to enjoy it, we are gonna have a blast. They do F8 trailer races, school bus races, train races, and this thing called "The Gauntlet" where a school bus has to survive 10 laps while being pounded on by a bunch of cars.
Elko speedway has an eve of destruction event that is pretty intense once a month in the summer.
School bus races, trailer races, banger races. They got it all. Well except for sleeves or teeth. I go a lot.
