Won the auction at least, hope the car is still available to pick up Saturday. Plans are to convert it from 1/4 hooligan fun toy into a serious road handler... well as much as one can be made to handle. After proper suspension and wheels I'll do something about the gearing. And that where I need some help sorting things out.
As it sits the rear gear is to high to be a long distance or sustained speed car. Would it better to go 273 or 700R4 or both? I figure a car this small with a V8 it could handle doing both and still be able to get up and go.
My only other V8 fast car was a 72 4 door Nova with a 300hp small block th350 and 355 rear. It was fun but crapped out at 125. I want more top end than that.
Awesome score! I love the color.
Forget the 700R4 and get a T56 and pedal assembly out of a wrecked F-Body.
Cool that will look good with a lower stance. Keep us updated with the transformation.
And yes T56.
Online calculators say that 75mph would be 3500rpm with 3.73's and 26.6" tire (295/50R15).
I say go for it.
And get it on video.
I think its a steal at that price even if its dark poop colour.
If I go 6 speed I'll try out the TCI 6 speed auto with paddle shift :)
Mooresville is full of stuff like that. Race fab capital of the US...and not just Nascrap.

So its a good idea I'm only bringing a trailer that can carry one car and I should leave my money at home?
First ,Very nice car.Now take a trailer for two or three cars,I never go to Charlotte with a one car trailer,to risque.
Oh dude, rock the heck on! That Spirit is wicked! I'd say a T-5 swap if you want to be cheap, but a T-56 will also fall right in. The Spirit was actually the first car to use a T-5, so thee swap is literally a bolt-in affair. Build thread!

I'm browsing charlotte craigslist when I'm not on grm at work lol. Friend with the rabbit is trying to find something cool and not VW he can buy for the 1200 hes about to get for his rabbit but hes too picky. found an old rolla wagon for 1200 (has to be a sign that it's meant to be) and he doesn't want it. and its a manual. 20r I think.

That pretty much rules.
I'm a big fan of brown on cars, and that's a very nice hue
Say now, that's a pretty nice ride.
I'd say keep the rear gears and put a T-5 in it. My Mustang has a T-5 with 3.80 gears and it cruises down the highway nicely.

Very nice.
There's a Spirit that autocrosses around here with a 350 in it. The stance is just great. I have a picture around here somewhere......
To do list:
New proper shocks.
Wheel spacers. 3mm so the fat tires clear the leaf springs. More peace of mind than anything else.
Thermoswitch the electric fans.
Thermostat housing upgrade to O-ring style.
Install tranny cooler.
Install MSD 6AL digital with rev limiter.
Traction bars.
Wheel locks. Those Center lines aint cheap.
That should do it for now. 1/2 that stuff I already have.
Other then a busted shock it drives fairly nice. Hesitation when you mash the gas so a carb tune is in order. Its fast, very fast.
What a score!! And yes Charlotte is bad . . . I picked SO much cool crap my last visit. I went to get an LS1 oilpan and ended up with springs, shocks, ported LS6 oil pump, a LS1 aftermarket cam (sending it to get dr'd), LS1 Intake (he threw it in for free) and some other goodies.
Mrs. Zero was glad I went in the 318, if I had the truck . . . it would have been trouble.
That is darn cool - nice buy!
The best find in the NC area was homes. I could sell my 900sf condo and buy a house 3 times the size.
