1.6 +rotrex super charger, torsen, full steel floors, full cage, 8 gallon fuel cell.

 

The tank was not completely full, but nearly was. I was surprised.

Good guesses though. Well, I was expecting 1700 no driver with the fairly heafty supercharger, I was pleasantly surprised to see ~1552 no driver, ~1720 with driver. I was still working on centering my budget scale setup and getting the suspension to settle correctly, but it seemed fairly consistent.

I think it can be somewhat attributed to my super lightweight wheels/tires and minimalist approach to the car. I kinda wish I'd gone with AL floors.

Now I just have to figure out corner weighting (help?!) and try and clear out the last bits of weight from the front end (little big brake kit, tubular arms, etc). Next year I'm going to a7's as I've been having a hell of a time getting the r888s to come up to temp. Reading around says the Hoosier A7 come up to temp on track on a car this light and wear relatively slowly (we'll see). I'm just hoping they don't overheat.

Exocet advetises 35% weight saved over a Miata, or 739 lbs

2094 - 739 = 1355

Accordianfolder likes to scare himself, been like that since he was little

So add a supercharger, say 45 lbs for unit and piping

1355 + 45 = 1400

And a 3% fudge factor, 42 lbs

My guess? 1442 lbs

 

Edit -- I was looking up supercharger, car weight stuff when you posted, did you intercool it?

Yep, it's intercooled! I think you'd probably be dead on for the "sport" Exocet with the aluminum floors. My self preservation kicked in when ordering the frame, full cage and steel floors, I've seen a lot of on track crashes and it seemed prudent :)

That’s pretty good. A non-caged 1.8 FM II Exocet comes in at 1550 with no real weight savings attempt. I’m guessing the lighter 1.6 components offset the cage tubing, and the non-full tank gave a little fudge :)

Bent-valve, the weight saved isn’t well expressed as a percentage. If Exomotive is quoting that it’s a bad way to do it.

Yeah - they have "30%" on the website - it's always seemed a bit odd with the variance in build types and donors. If I remember correctly it reads like "average weight savings" or something.

I'm theorizing I gained a lot by no lights except brake, and REALLY pruning the wiring harness (it has 3 fuses, 1 for the 02 sensor alone, etc) - I took a minimum of 15 lbs of wire out if I was guessing, but I never really measured. 2lb battery probably helping. I never really made it a priority per say, but I kept "keeping it simple" in mind. (i.e. I've stuck with my 13" wheels to avoid crazy offsets/spacers, etc). All in all, I'm really pleased with how the car is finally coming together.

Yeah, you can pull 15-20 lbs out of the wiring harness and you've dropped 24 lbs with that battery choice. That's pretty effective weight loss!

I'd recommend you stay away from tubular control arms as a weight savings. They're not quite as light as some of the claims and the front lowers in particular take some heavy loads.  Given the way that Exocets cool, I'd be tempted to try a Civic radiator and see if that works. Both the radiator and the fluid inside will be lighter.

Now i’m Gonna have to weight the Zoomboni and see how much it weighs.  Tube frame and smaller than a Miata  but much more engine and probably double the weight of tires and wheels.

take out the passenger seat!  You aren’t needing a meat sack for ballast anyway so may as well save a few there.

My wheels and tires are 28.5 lb a wheel if I remember correctly. I could probably drop a few pounds losing the passenger seat, but I like taking people for rides. I usually have someone riding with me for every autoX run when I get out there and my wife/family riding with me at track events.

I imagine the Zamboni is lighter than expected. IIRC there isn't any wasted frame weight in the Zamboni. Miata subframes with tubes welded to them. No need for heavy pesky subframe mounting brackets or redundant rails. laugh

Hmm, can you expound a bit on that? I'm looking to v8r's "pro" line of tubular control arms. My primary reason is ease of adjustability, I despise the cam's and have locked all corners with cam locks, but that had the side effect of difficulty fine tuning. I'm not kind to my car and the adjustment have stuck perfectly so far,  including some jumps and curb smashing. The arms have heim joints at the attachment point easing adjusting to some degree supposedly.

 

Weight was just an added bonus if true, they claimed ~2lbs, but I wouldn't be heart broken if they weighed the same or slightly more.

 

One of my favorite things I've done was Paco rear upper arms, on track rear adjustments are so easy.
