Ideally looking for a '93-'95 325i /is, but would consider a 328i/is as well (preferably no sunroof if a 328).
Requirements: Sub-150K or enthusiast owned and maintained, black or dove gray interior in good shape (prefer black), manual transmission, and no irreversible (or awfully painful to reverse) mods, like all of the ghetto fan deletes that I've come across, etc. Clean title / no rust / body damage. Will travel anywhere for the right car. $6K budget.
if people just replaced their engine and trans mounts.. there would be no reason for a fan delete
^Yes, but people are idiots.
true... and saying you have a "fan delete" sounds so much sexier
I actually got into an argument with a BMW know it all over fan deletes. He swears that I did it to my Ti.. it took some interwebs poking to prove to him that the M44 has an electric fan from the factory
I would like a 1996 328i Sport w/ factory LSD for DS. The Sport package on my 1994 325i came with smaller wheels (though 4 - 23" tires do fit in the trunk nicely.) My sedan also has the folding rear seat option. In other words its about the worst E36 chassis. At least it is early enough not to have the additional side marker lights in the fenders.
If you are thinking STX, the sunroof only became optional MY1997 on the 328. I suggest looking for a 328i without the optional folding rear seats (standard on the coupes). That should be the best E36 chassis. Side-impact airbags were phased in 1/97 for the sedans, so I'd really want a pre-1/97 non-sunroof 1997 328i for STX. Then I'd want to find a factory 328 LSD-equipped rear end cheaply.
Looks nice:

Don't discount cars with higher mileage. I would take a car with >150K mi and lots of fresh suspension and driveline parts over a 100k mi stocker any day.
I just bought one with a 176K mi that pulls like a train. Used engines are cheap too.

On a street car, no. There is no reason proper maintenance would not have eliminated.
On a race car I can think of three.
- Robs power
- does not move with the radiator so punctures it in light contact
- adds a step to quickly accessing the front of the engine for repairs

good luck with that one. EARLY 96 cars were the last of the non-M cars to get the factory LSD. My Feb built 1996 318ti may be one of the last Non-M cars to have an LSD
