Well, I'm hoping to start the beams engine we've been putting in a friends MR2 over the weekend. I turned it over manually last weekend, and felt 3 strong compression kicks as I rotate the motor, and then a 4th much weaker one. What say GRM? Try starting it? Or? I really, really don't want to hit a wall/break something- this car's been sitting in my garage long enough! The motor has been sitting a long time, but looks brand new - with still shiny plated hardware, very clean oil an no oil deposits visible through the oil cap.

Pull EFI fuse, crank it over, run compression test. See if compression numbers jump in the weak cylinder (if there is one) with the addition of a little bit of oil.

I've had experience with several engines that had low compression on one or two cylinders after sitting for a long time. After running for a few minutes they would show good compression on all cylinders (even after cooling down over night). I don't know if it's due to the cylinder walls drying out while sitting for extended periods, or something with the valves not sealing well (maybe corrosion on the valve seats?) but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I agree that putting a little oil in there and turning it over at speed before you run it is a good idea, just in case.

That makes me feel better - I had similar thoughts but appreciate the sounding board!

Thanks!
