Buy a cheap airline ticket to a distant city, buy some off the wall car, spend a week or two driving it home. Sell car.

This is in Vancouver BC for $2800. 4929 miles from home. I could probably talk Trans_Maro into checking it out and changing the oil. A little bailing wire and twine should keep it running that long. A stop at Wally World for the basic tools and some camping gear and hit the road. Worst case you drop it off at a scrap yard, buy another cheap car and continue the journey or catch a plane.

$2800 CAD is about $2076 USD.  With a little negotiation you could easily win "longest drive" at the challenge.

There is a 78 dark green on dark green one of those here near me that has been for sale at $2500 for 5ish months that I'm sure the place would sell for sub $2k at this point if you want the phone number let me know. It runs and drives cause they move it around.

But I know its about the adventure

This is up there as well. Not quite old enough though.

Tooo many cool cars in BC (due to 15 year rule), that I can't get here. Century and Delicas all over.

I have some family in Albuquerque and have actually been looking for one of these. 4wd, 454, 4 speed. Shouldn't need much gas on the way home. surprise

And the trunk should sleep three in relative comfort. Probably room under that hood if it's cold out. Do it. Just one rule to do it right: No hotels.

Take your time. I've yet to do a fly and drive and think I had enough time to see things.

I'm thinking one week, minimum. Probably more like two.

This would be less about the car and more about the journey.

If that Lincoln was a little nicer you could just drop it off at my place & I’d give you a ride the rest of the way home.

I've done several over 2K miles.  Fly n Drive, Bus n Drive, and the latest was a Train and Drive where I didn't even know what I was going to buy to drive home.

Train and drive would be interesting. I might have to look into that one.

A one way to Albuquerque is $170. That's pretty reasonable. I might have to revisit this around the end of February. Fly out, rent a car, spend a couple of days finding something interesting. Turn in the rental and drive home. '

That really sounds like fun, but you better have a LOT of time.

Train is definitely slower than flying, but it can be a pretty relaxing way to travel.  I'd be temped to get yourself to Toronto via whatever method you want and then do this for the rest of the trip: https://www.viarail.ca/en/explore-our-destinations/trains/rockies-and-pacific/toronto-vancouver-canadian  That trip by train is supposedly an awesome experience.

It was a much shorter trip, but FWIW, I did a train and drive when I bought the BMW last month.

Go big or go home?

1985 V12 jag for $1500.  Was posted on CL in San Fran area and linked in a FB group about obscure cars for sale.  This one has since been deleted, but I'm sure there are others like it.  If I wasn't already buried in too many cars, I would have been calling Nonak and booking a pair of one-way flights to NorCal. devil
