I bought a wagon for the Challenge for $200. The exhaust was junk and cant ve used on that car. Challenge build 2 is a Miata with a 40 pound muffler. Cut the resonator off the wagon exhaust, welded in place of stock muffler on Miata. No other parts used except 20" of factory resonator and welding wire. Value for budget?

Dusterbd13 can verify the portions that are original to the car but I doubt its needed.
And yeah, its ugly, but it has 2 hangers welded on (not the clothes kind lol) so its sturdy, weighs a lot less, sounds better, MAYBE a tiny difference in feel but could just be wishful thinking and I did it in an hour.
2 bucks is waymore than scrap metal valve....
YOU WASTED YOUR PRECIOUS TIME POSTING THAT.. LOL. you will be the only car with mufflers, so if it make's you feel right , a buck or 95 cent for welding material. hey it can be a street car next life and needs that.

In my house I justified the Miata acquisition with claims of great gas mileage and lesser need of psychiatric care. Meaning it's a fun daily first, racecar second. It doesn't hurt my case that SWIMBO loves late evening rides in the country with the top down tho. This is all new to me and my question was as much to get an idea of how far to take the spread sheet and values

Sometimes you have to take GTXVette with a grain of salt. He doesn’t always take his meds.
I think the approach you are taking is completely legit, especially since it makes the Mrs happy!

Was there something wrong or unusual about his reply? I loved it!
that IS funny, thanks JJ.
Call it a self-trade, no budget hit. $0.00
A couple more answers and we'll get him in the negetive's, rock on!
I think there should be a sub class of cars that were purchased by ones spouse/boy/girlfriend.
Welding wire should be pro-rated. If a 100-foot spool is $100, and you used 1 foot, then that's $1 of welding wire.
That is 'xactly the way I saw it but more wire at lower cost .Lol
If wire is a buck a foot (I dont think that was your suggestion) I'm switching to zipties, lol
