What's the FMV of a Locost that came in the form of a homebuilt frame and about 10 boxes of bits and bobs - including a Nissan 240sx drivetrain?

I'd say more like... $400-$500 depending on quality of frame and which 240sx motor. (dual cam or sohc? Manual or auto? limited slip diff or open)
Yeah, not much. The homebuilt frames are basically worth scrap unless you are really confident in the build.
Motor and trans would cost me around $200 out of the junkyard, rear end maybe $100 complete. Frame... Scrap price unless it's super baller.
It was listed here and on the Sports Car Club of Vermont forum. I was first contact and got it by default.
The whole thing came as a package due to the guy moving across the country.

I thought if it was listed on a forum or other public place it's fair market price was what it was listed for.

I'm reading this as he got it for $Free.99.
And maybe wants to attach FMV to it so he doesn't get totally screwed on the recoup front.
yeah if it was listed publically it cost you $0
i have some $0 stuff in my budget but it's all small stuff like "hey you're a car guy do you want this pile of junk before i scrap it?" or "damn that washing machine on the curb will give some nice sheet metal to enclose my fuel cell!"
one would be surprised how many free car parts(or things i turn in to car parts) get put out on trash night. need some tube? pick up a few bicycles. need sheetmetal? pick up some appliances. need a brand new underfloor power brake pedal setup that costs $100 at speedway motors? pick it up on the curb in a carton of garage stuff! (these are all true, i did pick up a new 49-54 chevy power brake pedal setup in the trash, and knew immediately what it was).
