I'm having some weird charging issues with my DD. It's a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 with a Zetec and manual transmission.
I started noticing that the lights dimmed and brightened as I drove. The cabin fan will slow down and speed up as well. I connected a multimeter to the power outlet so that I could monitor it as I drove. The voltage fluctuates between 11 and 15. The fluctuations are independant of engine speed and electrical load. It seems to occur more while the engine is cold or under load. The alternator was replaced about six months ago. I'd suspect that the voltage regulator is going out but don't they usually cause overcharging?
