How about an early Boxster?
In reply to Type Q :
No no its not. LOL
The more I think about this the more I think a midlana style would be the best, but a rolling chassis to start with sounds much more doable and not a 4 year build.... I like the mini size/shape, but they are pretty heavy.
How about a mid-mounted drivetrain in a Prius? Box flares, lowered, wide tires, just the thing to annoy shiny happy people. Only half-way kidding.
Where do you live? Reason I ask is sometimes building a car from scratch is Much easier to register than changing drivetrains in something already on the road.
In reply to kb58 :
I'm in WA. No inspections, so drivetrain swap should not be an issue.....
I like the prius idea! Hmmm wonder what they weigh stripped? I doubt they handle worth a poop though.

When you're doing the Wreck Racing method of vehicle modification, it doesn't matter how it handled when you started. We set a 0.8 second margin on a 35 second autocross in a Honda Insight, because nothing about that car had anything to do with what Honda did when it was made.
In reply to Matthew Kennedy :
Very true.... But If i am keeping the front end, a decent start helps!
There are no cheap Priuses (priui?) around me....

Maybe pick up an old sandrail as a start?

A Ranger or a Ranger Tremor would be pretty sweet. They weigh a bit less than Focus ST it appears. Make it into a baby Lightning.
In reply to The0retical :
Focus ST ~3300lbs, Id like to be ~2000-2500? all in. Civic above should be 1500-1700 as it sits, 1990 Toyota PU's are 2700-3500 ish (im guessing 2wd short ed is ~3k?) I say Toyata just because that's what I am familiar with and would probably use. Blasphemy aside....
It turns out the 1990 ish Toyota PU's in standard cab short bed are 1" shorter wheelbase than the f ST..... That would be easier than swapping it into the back if I was to leave it FWD, use the F St floor pan and hang PU stuff on it..... Its 2.5" per side skinner tho.
In reply to The0retical :
Maybe. But thats a big jump up in $$. They say they are considering a 2.3 ecoboost option.
