The former F1 doc blog linked above has some comments on it. Sounds like what little info may have leaked is wildly distorted, in any case.

Sounds like things are looking a bit up today. Reports are he is awake and being sent home/to another hospital for rehab

Great to hear it, I'd been waiting for good news on this. Didn't sound like Schumie had an easy time of things.

That said - everyone who'd said there's much in common between motorsports and alpine skiing, the difference is you're doing speeds in a car with a cage and arrest harnesses that'll keep you alive.

December through June is a long time. Just think of all the things you did, all the people you interacted with, places you've been in the last 6 months. It's about time there was a bit of good news on this story.

And now the finger pointing begins:

http://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2014/10/gopro_stock_price_tumbles_afte.html GoPro Inc. shares fell in both trading sessions this week following reports linking the sports-camera maker to the ski accident of retired race car driver Michael Schumacher, sparking safety questions about the use of the cameras.

The stock declined 9.9 percent to $76.67 Monday in the wake of reports in the New York Post and other outlets. Shares fell another $1.64, or 2.1 percent, Tuesday. Schumacher, 45, a seven-time Formula One champion, crashed while skiing in Meribel in the French Alps on Dec. 29, suffering contusions to the brain as well as hemorrhaging.

The reports today said Schumacher's son blames his father's condition on the GoPro camera that was mounted to the race car driver's helmet at the time of the incident.

Jeff Brown, a spokesman for San Mateo, California-based GoPro, said in a e-mail that the company is trying to get more information about the reports before issuing a statement.

GoPro, led by Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Woodman, went public in June. The shares have risen more than threefold, fueled by sales of its tiny video cameras that adventurers strap onto their bodies to record their exploits.

Yet the stock has been volatile, including declining 6.9 percent earlier this month after its founders donated some of their holdings to establish a charitable foundation, raising concern that releasing more shares might weigh on prices.

"A move of this magnitude is common for GoPro," said Alex Gauna, an analyst at JMP Securities in San Francisco, who has the equivalent of a buy rating on the stock. "It's also very clearly stated in GoPro's risk factors that consumers should be cautious when engaging in risky activity."

So if I go off-track, I can blame GoPro for being the cause due to raising my center-of-gravity?

People demand the right to do whatever they want yet point fingers at everyone but themselves if it goes wrong. Pathetic.

Go Pro execs, obviously.

Even if they found the body of the camera wedged in a hole in his skull I fail to see how they have any liability here. Unless someone wants to infer that a 7 time world champ with a reputation for being precise and unflappable under pressure made a mistake because of ... being filmed somehow?

FTFY.

Go pro foceed me to strap this camera to my head.

So much for non litigious Europe.

Obviously the weight of the camera caused his CG to be higher than normal leading to him falling head first. Next year GoPros will have a warning on the box about the ill effects of throwing off you're CG while placing cameras.

From what I've seen in courts I would guess that if the gopro comes with something called a helmet mount (I don't know if it does it not) then you have a reasonable expectation that said mount won't penetrate your helmet and skull. I don't necessarily agree but I can see the argument to be made.

I don't get why everyone wants to record their exploits anyway. The fish will never get bigger, the hill never steeper, nor the pass ever slicker with actual video documentation.

I'm sorry about the accident, but agree with bgkast- so much for the "non-litigous" culture of Europe. I think we're not alone in that respect, despite how much we'd like to complain about it.

Mine does not say "Helmet Mount" it says "Stick-on Mounting base" but I'm sure an attorney can wordsmith this so someday Michael can sit and watch the commercial where there is a 5 minute disclaimer about crapping blood like Cialis has and say "They have to say that because of me".

Wally may be onto something. http://shop.gopro.com/mounts/helmet-front-mount/AHFMT-001.html#/start=1

They have mounts that stick or strap onto helmets. I'm not convinced that these would compromise the integrity of a helmet, but at least "the mount did it" is more convincing than "the camera made me do it".

Edit: this article suggests the camera came through unscathed. If that's true I'm not buying this theory.

Sad to hear it, but then again, he's a young man who's dealing with the disablement of a father. I'm sure some of it is just a lash out because he's angry. I don't agree with it, but can empathize his feelings and position.

Interestingly, GoPro's are used a ton in karting and several tracks and series have banned them from helmet mounting specifically for the risk of what would happen if someone landed on the camera when ejected.

I think this is probably the best indication of how Schumacher is really doing. If he was cognizant and has progressed as much as intimated, I doubt his son would be as upset.

$716M at the box office suggests that, yes, Gravity had deep pockets.

On a more serious note, given how much money Michael Schumacher has made in his career, does it really seem likely that his family is going to want to go through the process of trying to sue a company like GoPro?
