I found this. Inside here it details many interesting things, but one thing that stood out; the "1st gear takeoff" has its quickest ratio when using automatic mode (2.37:1) versus manual mode (2.18:1)!
I'll be reading through that later.
In 2018 they extended the range of the trans so "1st" is lower and "7th" is higher. I'd be curious to find what the difference is.
In almost every situation it's best to let the transmission decide what to do on these cars. I can never seem to find an appropriate ratio for what I want to do. Also a fixed ratio reveals the abysmal power. The CVT hides it somewhat.

Try the new 2.5 sport. It's got "enough" oomph to be useful.
