How do I tell if this is the regular 215 HP engine, or the 305 HP Cobra engine? Does the Cobra say so on the intake , or something?

non-P.I. 2-valve 4.6.
if the miles can be confirmed, it could still be worth what they want for it. not a cent more, and half that without proof.
It's also got the early intake with the guaranteed-to-break plastic coolant crossover.
IDing a mod motor is fairly easy. Here's a DOHC. Note the enormous valve covers. SOHC engines like the one in the OP's link obviously have much smaller valve covers.
There are lots and lots of variations between years and models, but the size of the valve covers will always be the easiest way to tell SOHC from DOHC.
You can get the 32v motor from the Lincoln Mark 8s also, since there probably aren't many cobras in junk yards.

If I had one of those, I'd drop it in a lake, not a Miata.
trans should be worth close to the asking price of everything. too bad it doesn't have the pedals and stuff. would be nice for the clean looking 220k+ mile 5 speed GT i found last week floating around CL for a grand.
