I'm potentially doing something really crazy that involves a 5.0 liter Ford; one of the many considerations is what fuel tank cell is needed for a 30 minute session, distance would be approximately 40-42 miles. Note the space for a cell is very limited so slapping in a 20 gallon cell wouldn't be an option.
Motor output would be stockish, no more than 275-300 but likely closer to 200-225.
I’m going to say I get about 3.5 mpg. 2 mile track, five laps per session, four sessions, I need to add a few gallons to finish the fifth session. 15 gallon tank.
This is my best WAG. 5.0 in a 3400lb mustang.
This would be in a 1800lb car thereabouts.
The WAG is greatly appreciated.
When I was running a 302 with GT-40P heads, an XE-270HR cam, and a LIST 1850 (600 CFM, vacuum secondary, basic) Holley carb, I would get 12.5 MPG on track and up to 24 highway, found by doing math. It did that for 3 different track days. The 575 Speed Demon carb wasn't quite as good at mileage.
With the Boss347, Anderson N-51HR Cam, Victor Jr. heads and intake, and Holley Terminator EFI, I'm lucky to get 5 on track, and 16 highway. I'm not happy with that at all (mostly the highway number).
Okay, more WAG. On Summit Main, I'm getting 8-9 MPG driving it like I stole it.
E7 heads, Track Heat stage 1 cam, EFI Exploder intake and throttle, and no cats on the 2.5" dual exhaust. E36 chassis stripped down a bit, but I never weighed it. Call it 3k pounds with driver?

I’ve got a 16 gallon tank in my XR4Ti with a mild 302, ported aluminum heads, gt40 intake, headers etc etc and was able to run 5 sessions at Road Atlanta without running out. Not the fastest guy out there but far from the slowest.
