Ok, I think I've figured out (hopefully) what part of my problem is with the wiring on the car. I've got a 3g alternator that I'm trying to wire up to the 302 in the Miata. The guys that were helping me put a black wire as a ground since the regulator was different than what they were used to seeing. Well, the car wasn't charging, and I couldn't figure out what was happening, I've been scratching my head for a while. I think I have it figured out, but I need to verify a couple of wires with somebody that knows wiring better than me and can answer a question or two for me. There are 2 wires coming from the harness, a white with red stripe that I think I've traced back to the ECU, and a red with yellow stripe that I think I've traced to the idiot light. Looking at the picture of the alternator & regulator shown in the first pic on this web page http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/3ag/3ag.htm it looks to me like the I terminal should go to the idiot light/red w/yellow stripe wire, and the S terminal should go to the white w/red stripe wire. My question here is what function does the wire from the ECU going to the S terminal have? Next, the A terminal says that it is supposed to go to a fusible 12v source. I'm assuming that this is supposed to be a switched source, would this be a correct assumption? Since there is no key, I can tie it in to the cut off switch to provide the power. Is there any problems with my reading of the pic & attaching to my wiring harness? Thanks for your help!
