This car is advertised near me. I really came close to buying one of these in high school and have always been a fan of them. I am not too sure about the moster black foam rear spoiler though. Looks to be an interesting blow through turbo set-up.

Per the story, I wonder why the guy that modified the car in the first place put so much effort into the thing, and then got that knock-off ducktail spoiler vs. the factory RS piece from Europe.

You're making me miss a car I still own, ugh. I'm not that far away from NY State either... almost glad I don't have a garage or I'd want to take it home and then try to sort out the induction side of that turbo setup.

I'll be honest. I know nothing about that car model/history... and I'd be tempted. 6cyl turbo makes me happy... needs an IC somehow though in my own little world. Looks surprisingly clean for its age though.

Where does it say the rear spoiler is made of foam? I owned a Capri or I should say 4-5 of them over the years and one of them had installed a spoiler shaped just like the one on this car. It was make by Ford and I imported it from a source in England. It was made of fiberglass with a rubber lip along the top and the sides. It is a copy of the one Ford installed on their limited production RS 3100 Capris built in England.

jim: I don't think the real RS ducktails are that tall. This one looks about the same, just 2x the size.

Cool car. At first i thought maybe it was one of the Mercury Capri RS mnodels of the mid 80's. I can't tell which there is less of, the Mercury or the Ford Capri.

FWIW, a buddy had a Mercury Capri RS in the 80's, black with some orange decals, a massive hood scoop, and "RS" on the front corner of the hood. It was a decent driving car, but was replaced with a slightly modified 5.0 LX. We wrapped that car around a tree, and I have that incident to thank for a mouth full of porceline teeth.

I looked at the last picture of the car and this spoiler is exactly the same one I had on my Mk I Capri. It is the same size as the RS 3100 model only with the rubber lip and rounded corners. I had fitted and molded in my spoiler to the deck lid and it looked better then the install on this car. I think that's whats missing here.

All you have to do is Google "RS 3100 Capri" and you'll see that the spoiler is the same size!

Wish I had the room and spare money to by this car.

I just thought it was unattractive. It seemed to be like the 80's alfa spider spoiler, but on steroids!

Man that is a clean Capri, looks like it was very well maintained. The turbo setup looks well done for the vintage, although I think I would add some type of fuel injection, a mega squirt and a decent intercooler though.

If I had the money I'd be driving up and getting this car, I even love the color!!

I used to own a Capri of this vintage, after driving 5 or 6 over the years (many when they were new). The last I heard, the worst parts to source are the rear parcel shelf (NO ONE has ever reproduced them) and some other interior part....if I remember, but I don't remember exactly. I would want to own another one enough that I still have several restoration books/guides that I bought for my car.

As a used car, THE worst thing to look for bodywise, is rust around the windshield and rust in the strut towers. The front fenders are welded on and they can also hide a rusted "bulkhead".

BTW, the ticking lifters mentioned in the ad? The 2.6 and 2.8 had mechanical lifters and no one in the U.S. that owned these cars would take the time and/or knew they needed periodic(sp?) valve adjusting.

If this car is as good as it looks in the pix.....it's a screaming deal.

This summer I got my '77 capri up and running. RockAuto has a good number of parts and bearings are available if you can do some research and find a bearing supplier. Lots of places over seas (UK, Europe, Auz) sell parts. The guys at Capr Club North America can be very helpful but I've never asked for any parts. Team Blitz's website is still up but they dont seem to be in business anymore... . The nice thing is I dont feel bad about finding other ford parts to swap in for the more rare pieces; Like the Atlas axle-I think I'm going to look for a 7.5" from a FOX body.

Just look for rust at the suspension mounting points...

Norm of Team Blitz just helped run a Capri around the northern hemisphere or some such. If you tried calling him recently and got no one, it was probably because he was in a Capri bouncing across Russia.

Yeah; Norm at Team Blitz posts regularly at the Yahoo Capri Groups page. You have to join to post but you will be able to contact him. He has the parts to keep these cars on the road. He's a good guy, I've known him since 1992.

Norm never answers the phone, don't think he lists one at the crappy website he has. His business model is to have you e-mail him and he e-mails back, you send a check or CC number and he ships the parts. I've used him, spoke to him at the Capri Swarm in Ohio in Spetember. Don't like the business model? Too bad, it works for him to his satisfaction. He is, IMO, scrupulously honest. You don't like the product? return it. I've never felt he's tried to screw me even though I might no like his pricing

He and Larry Wells and Andy ???lastname went on a rallye from London to Mongolia last summer. They did not sucessfully complete the rallye

He IS dedicated to the car- he just bought the tooling for Capri steering racks when the manufacturer was going to scrap it so he could insure the supply of parts.

Fun cars. One day I'll have my 2.9 conversion done.

It looks like I am going to check the car out on Thursday morning. I am going to be driving right past where he is located. Apparently, the car was sold, but the buyer flaked out.

It appears that I am just going to be looking for rust. I owned a bmw 2002 so I am vaguely familiar with what to look for. Have to do some homework tomorrow on the cars.

Aren't these engines related to the Ford Explorer 4.0 v6?

I'd bring a flashlight and inspect everything you can possibly view without removing anything. Look for filler anywhere you've heard of cars rusting commonly. I hate to sound like a fatalist but these things like to dissolve. I bought my Capri when I was younger and more enthusiastic and have all but given up on it at this point because it's all just worm food for rust at this point.

I went to see the car yesterday morning on my way to Boston. The car was very impressive. I really don't need another car and was secretly hoping to be disapointed.

The owner of the car had 4 911's mixed between his driveway and garage. Two of them were uber rare and very expensive.

The paint on the car was excellent. The previous owner was a German engineer and had the car for years. Apparently, he collected a lot of parts on trips to Europe over the years. The rear spoiler was in fact a Ford OEM piece. The car handled very good as it had a very rare RS2600 set up. The interior was in good shape as wel with maybe only the headliner needing some work. The only thing that would make the car look nicer was a different set of wheels.

He had a ton of spare parts for the car in his basement. The exhuast needed to be rehung with different hangers. It was pretty low. The turbo spooled nicely and the car moved out quite well. It didn't have a wastegate and that would be a good addition.

The car was like a time machine really. I am waiting to hear back from him later today or tomorrow. It would be hard to pass this up on the cool factor alone. I could not see any points of concern rust wise. It is hard to even find any of these cars for sale nationally much less an hour away.

I almost bought one of these when I was about 16 and have always liked them. For the price, it would be a very fun weekend driver. Am I nuts?
