I was browsing through Ford Racing's site and happened across this
http://fordperformanceracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=25303
What is it?
a 2.0L Ecoboost crate WITH ENGINE MANAGEMENT for about $6k
EcoBoost Engine from 2013-2014 Ford Focus ST
Production rating of 252 Horsepower @ 5,500 RPM
Production rating of 270 lb. ft. of torque @ 3,000 RPM
When used with Engine Control Pack M-6017-20T and 93 octane unleaded fuel, torque is increased 90 lb. ft at 2800 RPM - with a significant increase up to 4200 RPM. See the power curve for PN M-6017-20T
Am I reading this right? 270lb-ft + 90 = 362lb-ft!!!
Stupid ideas are abounding, thats not a bad price for a crate.

Anyone want to buy a Zetec with 130k miles, a '72 Pinto's 4 speed manual that bolts to the Zetec, and the 3.8/auto combo that's coming out of my '84 Marquis for $6k? I'll even through in the Central Fuel injection EEC-III computer and the gas pedal.
Yeah, they make stupid power.

berkeley... I want one. and a miata shell
Nice, I know a lot of people were waiting for these.
That would be perfect for a bucket T.
I happened across it during a dream session of "What if I went full retard on the Bugeye Sprite", its not happening, but I like these dream exercises and figured that this was good enough that someone on here might act on it so that I can live vicariously.
I know they offered the 1.0L as a crate at one time, but the engine management was always the holdup due to the direct injection on these motors. If you have an OEM quality engine management without all of the CAN-BUS junk that could be a hell of a thing.
That is sweet! That will probably make its way into a lot of fun cars.
I am honestly half expecting that its a mistake on their site, but if its true...

Or Miata running gear in a Bugeye body...
Well, I did the chat thingy to see if anything was up.

Hello Apex. My name is Tom. Let me check please.
Apex says:
Thanks
Tom says:
Yes, that price is suggested retail when it becomes available.
Apex says:
Thank you! Do you have any information on when it might come available?
Apex says:
Also, is there any possibility you might have a similar setup with the 1.0L Ecoboost coming?
Tom says:
You will find it for less if you do some shopping around!
Tom says:
Not at this time.
Apex says:
Thank you for your time

Anytime sir!
Why is the ecoboost engine w/o control kit listed for $8000? I'm thinking the $6k price must be an error.

In reply to 2002maniac:
Either that or they're going to slash the price on the engines w/o control kit. Who knows?...Maybe that was that "while we catch up to demand on EB Mustangs" engine price.

That was my thinking as well, but the chat indicates...
Anyone know what RWD transmissions will bolt to the Ecoboost? Wonder how off the engine mounts from a Miata are for this engine.

I think it would be any Duratec/MZR transmission. i.e. Ranger or Miata transmission.
My question would be which transmissions would hold up to that kind of power - particularly for middie application?
Wondering about transmissions as well.
It would be funny to put this into like a Merkur or some kind of fox body.
Or something completely different.... like a Starion.
wow just read that and it comes WITH that "controls pack" it talks about. $6000 for crate engine + ecu and 360ft/lbs or torque? Sign me up.
Too bad I already have a project.
Another thought, it has OBD2, so those under the yoke of emissions have that going for it. (plus diagnostics)
The ECU Kit alone is $1900, so engine, ECU, Starter, Intercooler Air intake for $6000 is a bargain.

Keep in mind that it won't return a full range of OBD-II codes. If it's anything like the GM ones, it'll return a stripped-out subset. Codes will simply return "not applicable" for things like cat monitoring and evap. Some states are cool with this, others are not.

Where's my Exocet??
In a lightweight Exocet would the stock Miata trans hold 360 lb-ft?
How do you think overall weight would compare: ecoboost 2.0T vs Miata turbo vs LSx?
